Lorne Freeman

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Lorne Freeman on April 8, 2026, at the age of 56.

Lorne was born on December 31, 1969, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to Janet and Jim Freeman. He was raised in Lynn Lake, Manitoba, where he attended school from Kindergarten through Grade 12. Growing up in the North, Lorne was surrounded by his step-siblings and many close friends, and as the youngest child, he created countless memories filled with laughter and adventure.

From a young age, Lorne developed a deep love for the outdoors and for working with his hands alongside his father. He learned how to fix machines, and spent many days fishing, hunting, and enjoying the northern lifestyle. One of his fondest experiences was watching and learning from his dad, especially when it came to his father’s passion for flying his personal airplane. Lorne was a true northern boy at heart.

He was active in school sports and loved spending time with his friends, with volleyball being his favorite. In 1990, Lorne moved to Brandon, Manitoba, where he attended college and completed one year of Business Accounting. He went on to build a career in sales, working for several companies over the years.

In 1994, Lorne became a father—his proudest role in life. He welcomed his son Levi, followed by his daughter Stephanie in 1998, and they were truly his entire world.

Lorne had a deep passion for the outdoors that stayed with him throughout his life. Whether he was golfing with friends, fishing, camping, quadding, or enjoying time at the lake, he was always happiest when surrounded by nature and good company. He loved to have a good time and will be remembered for the laughter and memories he shared with those around him.

Lorne is survived by his loving mother, Janet Freeman and her partner Steve; his siblings Marlene Freeman Bates, Ed Freeman, Kendra Freeman, and Rona Anthony; his son Levi (and his wife Madison and their soon-to-be granddaughter); and his daughter Stephanie.

He was predeceased by his father, Jim Freeman, and his sister, Gail Freeman Buck.

Lorne’s family is heartbroken by his loss, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Riverview Curling Club, 420 Maryland Ave, Brandon.
