Dr. Andrew Seitz

May 26, 1963 - Jan. 27, 2025

Dr. Andrew Seitz passed away peacefully with his wife Jennifer by his side, at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Monday, January 27, 2025.

Andrew was born on May 26, 1963 to Ilse and Helmut Seitz. He was born and raised in Lethbridge, AB., having a close bond with his sister Sabina. After graduating high school from Lethbridge Collegiate Institute in 1981, he moved to Edmonton to attend the University of Alberta to pursue his calling as a family physician. There he met his first wife, Dorothy  and his step-son Christopher. The family of three moved to Winnipeg, MB. where he completed his residency. He started his medical career in Brandon, MB. at Western Medical Clinic in 1990, where he proudly practised up until his passing.

Andrew and Dorothy were blessed with a baby girl, Alexa, in 1990. He encouraged Dorothy to take her nursing education. When Dorothy decided to move to Palm Desert, CA., he knew the children should be with their mother, and Palm Desert became a place he would love and spend many wonderful times at. Alexa would spend her summers back in Manitoba, and Andrew was sure to attend special events. Andrew had a close relationship with his sister Sabina, and was heartbroken by her untimely passing.

Something that brought great joy to Andrew, and helped him through some difficult times was when he and his friends formed a soccer team - the Hotspur, and joined the Brandon Senior Men’s Soccer League. He was known to most of his soccer teammates as “Doc”. Many fun times were had and still those friendships continue to this day. Andrew was also grateful for the Dhalla family, who welcomed him in like a brother, and he was affectionately called “Andy Uncle” by the kids. The girls had fun dressing him up and applying makeup - moments that brought laughter over a few glasses of wine.

In 2003, Andrew met the love of his life, Jennifer Austin, a grad nurse working on 400 at the hospital. The couple married in 2006, and he was welcomed into the Austin family. He loved and embraced the Austin family bonds, celebrating holidays and gathering for dinners & barbecues at Malveen’s home.

Andrew and Jenny, as he lovingly called her, were blessed with their son Thomas in 2008 and then in 2015, their miracle baby Nicholas.

He loved being a hockey dad - the tournaments and road trips, swimming lessons in Souris with the kids, hanging out in the backyard, going for walks in the neighborhood and playing video games. He would always be cheering on the sidelines at their sporting events.

He looked forward to the frequent phone calls and video chats with Christopher and Alexa. Andrew had a passion for music, having quite the collection of guitars. He was a part of the “Kiss Army” and even named his pets with nods to Kiss- Frehley, Strutter and Ace. Over the years he attended some 20-plus Kiss concerts.

Dr. Seitz had a very successful career as a family physician. His dedication to the University of Manitoba Family Medicine Residency Program ran deep and he was often shadowed by a new doctor in training. Andrew played a significant part in the development of the new Western Medical Clinic on Victoria Ave. He was involved with the heart rehab program at the YMCA and was also the physician in attendance at many Wheat Kings hockey games over the years.

Andrew worked hard so he could play hard. He loved taking the family on vacation. Trips included such places as Hawaii, Phoenix, Orlando, and more locally to Tinkertown and the Bear’s Den in Clear Lake. But his favourite adventure was in Palm Desert and the “Bump and Grind” trail in the Santa Rosa Mountains.  It is a challenging route which offers stunning valley views. Just over a year ago, during a Christmas trip, Andrew made it to the top one last time, along with Jennifer and Nicholas. Even though he was going through cancer treatment, he wasn’t going to let that stop him. A testament of his strength, resilience, and spirit. He was determined to beat the disease and did not want to accept that his time on Earth was coming to an end.

Dr. Seitz was dedicated to his profession and very caring of his patients. Andrew’s passion for teaching continued until his final days. Just a few days before he passed, he was still teaching student nurses, imparting his knowledge to those who would care for patients like him. Andrew's dedication to both his patients and his students will never be forgotten.

Andrew was predeceased by his sister Sabina Zetter, father-in-law Bruce Austin and father Helmut Seitz.

He is survived by his mother Ilse Seitz, his loving wife, Jennifer Seitz; his children, Christopher, Alexa, Thomas and Nicholas; mother-in-law Malveen Austin; brother-in-law Kevin Austin (Hayli), sister-in-law Jillian Austin (Erik); brother-in-law Kirk Austin (Jennifer), nieces Blaize and Cruize, and nephew Benjamin; plus many extended family members and friends.

A private funeral service took place on January. 30, 2025 at Brockie Donovan Chapel. Interment occurred at Rosewood Memorial Gardens where Andrew was laid to rest near to his father-in-law Bruce. Pallbearers were Kevin Austin, Kirk Austin, Erik Harpe, Dr. Sonny Dhalla, Doran Pinette and Ted Speirs.

Andrew’s family wish to extend a warm thank-you to the wonderful nurses and staff at CancerCare in Brandon, 400 Medicine and A3 Palliative Care.
