Obituary of Muriel Guild

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Muriel Guild, who died peacefully at the age of 94 on Thursday, February 13, 2025.

Muriel Alice Mary Guild (nee Edwards) was born to the parents of Alfred and Alice Edwards on January 21, 1931 in Brandon. She was the youngest of five children and lived on the family farm near what used to be Powerville School. She attended Powerville School, Brandon Collegiate and Wheat City Business College. After completing her education Muriel was employed at Manufacturers Life until marrying her husband Jim on November 7, 1953. She then moved to the farm where she lived until the summer of 2016. Muriel was very active in the day to day operations the whole time she lived on the farm, and enjoyed tending to her large flower and vegetable gardens. On September 7, 1956 they welcomed their son David. While living on the farm she also held various offices with the Hunter Ladies Club and the Kirkham Bridge Women's Institute. She loved to help out whenever needed at community events, especially with her two grandchildren, Dale born January 17, 1993 and Candice born December 11, 1995. Muriel attended as many of their activities as she could. She also enjoyed her great grandson Greyson who was born December 17, 2014.

When time permitted in her later years on the farm she liked to get away for the odd golf game and enjoyed watching curling. When Jim and Muriel were in their sixties, they would often get away in the winter time for a week or two to the southern states for a holiday which she really enjoyed.

In the summer of 2016 Muriel moved to Brandon and resided at Crocus Gardens until she had a severe and disabling stroke in February of 2018. From then on she resided at Valleyview Care Home when 24-7 care was required. The family would like to thank the staff at Valleyview especially those on the second floor for the excellent care they gave to Muriel.

Muriel is predeceased by her husband Jim, her parents Alfred and Alice Edwards and her three brothers George, Jack and Ernest (Bernice). Muriel is survived by her sister Dorothy Thorton; and sister-in-law Mary Edwards; son David (Monica) Guild; grandchildren Dale (Hayley) Guild and Candice (Colby) Guild; great grandson Greyson Guild and Monica's daughter Jamee Wyatt. Muriel also will be missed by many nieces and nephews and their families.
