Delenora Brown

Obituary of Delenora Brown

Our beautiful mother: Delenora Grace Brown (Finlay), known by all who loved her as Del, lost her battle with cancer on February 18th, 2025.  Her warrior strength, pride, sense of independence and ferocious love for her family was witnessed by all who were with her during her fight with cancer. We stood in awe watching the challenges that she faced and how stoic she remained. We drew strength from her positive outlook and her making the most out of the time she had left with the people she loved.

Our mother was predeceased by our father Jim Brown and grandson Tyler.

She will be forever remembered and loved by her daughters: Katherine (Jamie), Shelly, Theresa and her son: James (Cheryl).  Her grandchildren; Ben (Angela), Max (Jess), Erica (Arrol), Emily, Ethan, Seth, Quinn, Kacey, Elijah, Colin and Emily.  Her great grandchildren; Ryan, Bradley, Sarah, Jack, Sofia, Colton, Ava and Rylan.

Mom was born in Portage la Prairie, MB where she spent her childhood. At a young age, she lost her parents and was raised by her older siblings. She moved between family members before settling in Brandon, MB, where she met and married Jim and was welcomed into the Brown family with open arms. Shortly after marrying, Del and Jim moved to Thompson, MB where they worked and raised their family.

Mom raised her 4 children while maintaining her career at the Burntwood Hotel.  She started as a desk clerk, moved into the bookkeeping position and finally the Manager. She left her career working at the Burntwood hotel to move to Brandon upon Jim’s retirement from Inco. Once settled in Brandon, she worked at Maple Leaf Foods for a few years before retiring in 2015.

After the passing of Jim and in her retirement, she discovered many new friends within her neighborhood and at the Prairie Oasis senior's center. She felt that she was extremely blessed to have formed close relationships with her neighbours, where they looked after one another and created close friendships. Mom enjoyed her afternoons of Scrabble, looked forward to her walks and also the shared glass of wine while watching a movie.  She also appreciated her close relationships and support from her sisters-in-law too.

Mom loved to play cards and board games with her family and friends. She reveled in the friendly competition of playing Bridge, Scrabble and Mahjong. She was happiest at home enjoying the company of her family and friends.  She had an extensive collection of books and movies which she enjoyed over and over. While visiting her she would welcome you to watch her favorite game shows and there would be competition to come up with the right answers to the questions that were presented. Our mother was a private person but once you were a part of her life you were welcomed into her home as family.

Our family will host a celebration lunch in honour of mom at a later date.

In memory of our mom, we request that you spend some time with your friends and families, enjoying their company and maybe even playing a game or two.
