It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Martin George Moyer, who passed peacefully surrounded by family after a short illness on Thursday, April 10, 2025.
Martin is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Betty; his three children Douglas (Jola), Barry (Monica), and Sheila; his cherished grandchildren Adam, Jennifer, Jamie, Brent, Emily, Jonah, and Joshua; and his precious great-grandchildren Zachary, Oliver, and Tianna. He will also be dearly missed by his siblings Gordon (Lynne), Vincent (Linda), Vern (Hazel), Ralph (Carol), twin sister Madeline (late Vern), Agnes (late Albert), and Sharon (Bill), along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Martin was predeceased by his parents August and Christine, brothers Andrew (Vi), Philip (Faith), Roger (Judy), Sylvester (Dorothy), and Ambrose (Lorraine), sisters Cecilia and Theresa, and other beloved family and friends who went before him.
Born in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, Martin was the fourth of fifteen children. The family later settled in Onanole, Manitoba, where he spent his early years. After completing his schooling, he moved to Brandon, where he began his career as a machinist with Gillis & Warren. He later apprenticed as an auto mechanic at Brandon Chrysler Dodge and worked there for over 17 years before transitioning to a role at the City of Brandon Water Treatment Plant, where he remained until his retirement in 1999.
A natural problem-solver and skilled craftsman, Martin spent countless hours in his basement and garage workshops. Whether it was repairing engines or taking on building projects, he became known to many as the man who could fix anything. If Martin couldn’t fix it—no one could.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the emergency staff at Grace Hospital and the 3rd floor team at Seven Oaks for their compassionate care. A special thank you from Betty to Sturgeon Creek I for their ongoing support and kindness during this time.
A celebration of Martin’s life will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332 8th Street, Brandon, Manitoba.
