Michael Noch

Obituary of Michael Noch

Michael Noch passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

Michael Bruno Noch was born in Dorsten, Germany on October 1, 1954, the first of two boys to Brune Heinrich Karl Noch and Christine Maria Martha Schlarpp. Brother Norbert was born two years later.  In 1956, Michael’s parents divorced leaving Michael and Norbert primarily in their mother’s care.

When Michael was 17, he was drafted into the German army where he subsequently came to Canada for training in Shilo, MB. Here he met his future wife, Alma, love of his life, in 1974.  Michael was convinced he had found “the one” when he met Alma at a dance in Shilo that she had attended with her sister. He was going to marry her he said…it was love at first sight.  Alma entered the relationship with three daughters, Sylvia, Vivian and Julia from a previous marriage. Michael immediately took them in as his own which was not easy for a young man of only 21, but he did it and was quite proud of it!!

In May of 1976, they welcomed daughter Christa and in August 1976 they were married. In August 1977, they welcomed son, Michael Jr., into the world.

Michael enjoyed taking part in a variety of sports. Before leaving Germany he played soccer, but after a knee injury he was unable to continue.  After moving to Canada he eventually took up golfing and loved to play almost every day through the summer.  He was also a 40+ year member of the Army Navy & Air Force Veterans in Canada (ANAF) in Brandon, MB.   There he met many friends and participated in numerous events including triathlon tournaments in Winnipeg that consisted of shuffleboard, pool, and darts.  He also enjoyed curling and his golf and cribbage with the boys.

Michael was predeceased by his mother, father as well as many uncles and aunts.  He is survived by his loving wife, Marie Emily (Alma) Noch (nee Swan); his children, Sylvia (Bill), Vivian, Julia (Randy), Christa (Carey) and son Michael Jr., 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, brother Norbert (Iris), their son and his three grandchildren.

A private family interment will be held at the Rosewood Memorial Gardens. A Celebration of Life will be held at the ANAF Clubroom, 31 – 14th Street, Brandon, MB on Friday, May 16, 2025 beginning at 1:00 p.m.
