Celebration of Life
Obituary of Donald Chambers
It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, and great-grandfather on August 8, 2025, at the age of 96. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at Rideau Park Personal Care Home in Brandon, Manitoba. Dad will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his children: Barbara (Nigel) Packwood, Catherine Shaw, Carl (Donna) Chambers; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Born on November 27, 1928, and raised on the family farm in the Croll District of Manitoba, Dad lived a full and hardworking life rooted in the values of family, community, and perseverance. He farmed alongside his beloved wife, Ida (nee Latimer), raising four children and caring for the land and animals until his retirement in 1993. Even after leaving the fields, his heart never left the farm.
Dad believed in enjoying life as much as working hard. He loved to dance and spent many happy hours curling and playing shuffleboard. Winters often took him and Mom to Arizona, where they enjoyed the sunshine, many friendships, and a welcome break from Manitoba’s cold. Dad taught himself to play the keyboard at the age of 65, and shared his love of music by playing at many of the personal care homes in Brandon, as well as for entertainment in Arizona.
Dad was predeceased by his parents, Bruce and Erema Chambers; his wife, Ida (nee Latimer); his son, Brian Chambers; and his brothers Kenneth Chambers and Garth Chambers.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Rideau Park Personal Care Home for their care and kindness.
A family interment was held in Boissevain Cemetery and a celebration of life, at Trinity United Church in Brandon, Manitoba. If friends so desire, donations in Dad’s memory can be made to The Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba.
