It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Shawn Michael Poncsak on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at the age of 57.
Shawn was born in Esterhazy, SK on December 24, 1967. Shawn went to MacDonald School in Stockholm, SK before moving to Brandon, MB at the age of 18 to attend Brandon University. His career path lead him to working at a variety of establishments including Frito-Lay, Koch Fertilizer and for the past year worked as a level 4 power engineer in CFB Shilo. Shawn was also the proud owner of his own business, ezlid. Throughout his life Shawn was passionate about sports, he enjoyed either watching or playing; darts, pool, golf, bowling and baseball, although his love of sports mostly consisted of football and hockey where he was a long time fan of the New York Islanders and the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Shawn leaves behind his pride and joy daughter Kendra, her mom Cindy, parents Wayne and Adeline Poncsak, brother-in-law Jeff Kaspick, niece Hailey (Kate), nephew Carson, brothers-in-law Gary Atkinson (Sandra) and Brian Atkinson (Betty), nieces Kristin (Sean), Jayme (Cole) and nephew Michael. He will also be missed by his two fur babies Domi and Mia. He was predeceased by his twin sister Shelley Kaspick (August 28, 2016) and in laws Art and Bernice Atkinson.
A celebration of Shawn’s life will be held at the Clarion Hotel and Suites, 3130 Victoria Ave, on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. Please dress casually or wear your favourite sports jersey to honour Shawn’s love of sports. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Shawn may be made to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200 17th Street East, Brandon, MB, R7A 7M6 or to a charity of choice.
