Obituary of Michael Mallette
Michael John Mallette, of Rivers, Manitoba, passed away on January 27, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born on November 12, 1962, in Winchester, Ontario, to Ernest Mallette and Helen Fox.
Michael spent his early years in Ontario before moving with his father, twin sister Laura, and younger brother Joey to Brandon, Manitoba. It was there that, at just 17 years old, he met the love of his life, Janice. They were married in 1981 and together built a family, raising four children: Gregory, Derrek, Kyle, and Jenna.
Michael worked hard throughout his life and never shied away from new experiences. At 17, he traveled across the country with the fair. He later worked on a dairy farm before starting at Paul’s Hauling, where he realized his true passion was not washing trucks but driving them. After earning his Class 1 license, Michael spent many years on the road as a semi-truck driver. In 2005, he and Janice moved with their three youngest children to Ontario, where they purchased and successfully operated a taxi company for six years. In 2011, they returned to Manitoba to be closer to their two oldest children, and Michael happily returned to the work he loved most—truck driving.
Michael’s passions went beyond his career. He had a lifelong fascination with engines and semi-trucks, and he loved nothing more than watching planes soar overhead or spending time at the airport watching take-offs and landings. Above all, Michael cherished time with his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, known for his warm personality, playful sense of humor, and love of socializing. His grandchildren were a constant source of joy, and he will be remembered for the countless moments he spent making them laugh.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Janice; his children Derrek (Melissa), Kyle (Diamond), and Jenna (Dustin); his siblings Evelina Meyer, Jeanie Beckstead, George Mallette, Laura Mallette, and half-brother Joey Lewis; and his cherished grandchildren Justice, Desmond, Sierra, Silver, Chloe, Paisley, Brielle, Addison, Kitiara, Luciana, Owen, and Jordyn.
He was predeceased by his parents, Ernest Mallette and Helen Fox; his son, Gregory Mallette; and granddaughter, Bella Mallette.
A Graveside service will take place at Brandon Cemetery, 1901 18th Street, on Friday, October 3, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. where he will be laid to rest next to his son, Greg.
Michael’s legacy of love, laughter, and hard work will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
