Obituary of Linda Baker

Linda Kathleen Baker
November 4, 1948 – October 2, 2025

It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Linda Kathleen Baker on October 2, 2025, at the age of 76.

Born on November 4, 1948, to Fred and Isabella Boorman, Linda grew up on a dairy farm near Souris, Manitoba, where she learned the value of hard work and family from an early age. Her upbringing shaped the generous, caring, and resilient woman we all knew and loved.

Linda held many jobs throughout her life—Western Concrete, Kreller’s Television City, Inventronics and Sweet Temptations among them—but her greatest joy came from helping raise her grandchildren. She would drop everything to support her family, always putting others before herself.

Linda met the love of her life, Mel Baker, at a local barn dance. They were married on June 3, 1967, and together built a warm and welcoming family home where love and laughter were abundant. They raised three daughters—Kathy, Cora Lee, and Paula—on the family farm before moving to Brandon in 1987. Selling the farm was a big change, but Linda remained the glue that held the family together.

Linda was a passionate bowler and helped start the Provincial Mixed 5-Pin League, where she bowled for over 40 years. Her dedication to the sport and the community was unwavering.

Linda was also known far and wide for her incredible cooking and baking. From hearty farm meals served in the fields to sweet treats for Riverheights Terrace bake sales, her food brought comfort and joy to many. Her family will deeply miss her delicious creations, especially her famous baked goods.

To say the least she was a Sports fanatic! She was a devoted Blue Jays fan, cheering them on with enthusiasm and heart. We’ll continue to root for them in her honor—Go Jays Go, for you Mama.

Linda’s legacy is one of love, generosity, and unwavering support. She loved being at home, caring for her family, and making sure everyone felt welcome and well-fed. Her kindness touched everyone who knew her, and her absence leaves a hole that cannot be filled.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Mel; daughters Kathy (Bruce), Cora Lee, and Paula; grandchildren Bryson (Sarah), Brandi (Wade), Austin and Jaden; step-grandchildren Mikyle and Nazaire; and great-grandchildren Brody, Kallie, and Robbie. She also leaves behind her sister, Helen Thornitt; sisters-in-law Shirley Spratt and Marlene Johnson; along with extended family and many cherished friends.

Linda was predeceased by her parents Fred and Isabella Boorman, sister Marnie Boorman and brother Bill Boorman. A celebration of Linda’s life will be held Friday, October 10, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332 8th Street, Brandon.

We love you, Mom & Grandma. Your spirit lives on in every meal shared, every Blue Jays game watched, and every act of kindness we carry forward.

Guests are welcome to wear Bluejay or bowling league attire in honour and remembrance.
