Karen Lee Putaro
September 22, 1961 – November 21, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Karen Lee Putaro announces her peaceful passing on November 21, 2025, at the age of 64.
Karen was born on September 22, 1961, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to her devoted parents Albert and Verdie Peters. She grew up surrounded by the love of her family, including her brother Ken Peters and sister Linda Peters, with whom she shared a lifelong bond.
On July 11, 1981, Karen married the love of her life, Mike Putaro, and together they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering love. Karen was the cherished mother of Chris (and his girlfriend Jill) and Kaela (and her husband Svan). Being a grandmother brought Karen immeasurable joy, and she will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Zach, Brody, and Violet, who were the light of her life.
Karen devoted many years of service to Prairie Mountain Health, working passionately and compassionately in a variety of roles. She began her career with the foundation, later served as a program assistant in Diagnostic Services, then as Environmental Services & Laundry Manager, and ultimately as a program assistant in Long Term Care. Karen took great pride in her work and had a deep respect for the colleagues, residents, and families she supported.
Outside of work, Karen cherished the simple, meaningful parts of life—sewing, puzzling, cooking, and spending long visits playing cards with friends and neighbours. Every Saturday, she treasured her morning coffee over the phone with her mom, a weekly ritual that kept them close no matter the distance. She often reminisced about her childhood on the family farm, sharing stories of those early days that shaped her. She loved to travel, especially to warm and sunny places like Mexico, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, and Cuba. The beach, the sun, and the heat were among her greatest joys.
She was a devoted and joyful part of her community, always giving her time, kindness, and steady faith to the people around her. She poured her heart into every role she took on—whether serving with the Christian Women’s Club and Awana, teaching Sunday School, or lending her voice to the Parent Teacher Council. She also embraced leadership with grace and gratitude, guiding others as the After 5 Club chairman and as a Stonecroft Bible Study leader. In every space she touched, she created connection, encouragement, and a sense of belonging.
In May 2020, Karen was diagnosed with cancer and faced her illness with extraordinary courage, grace, and unwavering faith. Even through five years in hospital, she remained resilient, hopeful, and deeply rooted in her Christian beliefs. Her family takes comfort knowing she is now in heaven, held in the arms of her Saviour she loved so dearly.
Karen will be remembered for her strength, kindness, gentle spirit, and the love she poured into her family and friends. She touched the lives of many and will be profoundly missed.
The family wishes to thank the medical teams who provided compassionate care throughout her journey.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Canadian Blood Services or Cancer Care Manitoba.
Karen’s celebration of life will be held at McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church, 635 McDiarmid Drive, Brandon, MB on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at 1:00 p.m., with a reception to follow.
A private family interment will take place prior to the service.
