Obituary of Robert Shineton
Robert (Bob) Edward Shineton was born in McCreary, Manitoba on September 20th, 1950, to Norman and Marie Shineton. Known as Bobby in his early years, he was a cute little boy with blonde hair and big brown eyes. According to his early grade teachers, those brown eyes would get him almost anything he wanted. A good brother to Darlene and Carol, he had a very happy childhood. Bob made friends easily and took part in most of the activities a small town had to offer. He played baseball, hockey, road apple, and downhill skied. When he was older, he helped his dad in the various businesses he owned.
After graduating high school, Bob worked for the Royal Bank. His time with the bank took him to Dauphin, Kenora, The Pas, and Winnipeg. During his time in The Pas, he met the love of his life, Myrna Messner. They were married in 1974. They spent their first years of marriage in The Pas, enjoying time with friends and family.
After a few years Bob and Myrna moved to Winnipeg. It was here that they started their family. Welcoming their daughter, Jennifer, in 1979, and their son, Jeffrey, in 1980. During their time in Winnipeg Bob also began his career with MTS. Bob had many fond memories of dinners, playing cards, and camping trips with the friends they made while living in Winnipeg. A job transfer in 1989 moved the family to Brandon.
Bob’s last few years of work were spent at Prairie Mobile in Brandon before he and Myrna both retired in 2012. After retirement they enjoyed skiing, golfing, watching their grandkids sports, and traveling across Canada.
A caring and supportive father, he could always be counted on for whatever his kids asked of him. He and Myrna filled their kids’ childhood with many fun memories. The family enjoyed many summers of camping, including hiking, biking, and trips to the waterslides. Bob loved fishing with the kids, his dad, and other family members at his parents’ cabin at Manipogo Lake, and with his brothers-in-law and nephews at Clearwater Lake.
Bob, Myrna, and the kids spent their early winters cross-country skiing, before switching to Bob’s favourite activity of downhill skiing once they moved to Brandon. Skiing was a passion Bob was able to share with his family, and it also introduced him and Myrna to some wonderful friends, whom they enjoyed going on ski trips with once the kids were older and could not always join them.
The proud grandfather to 5 grandchildren, he loved to soak in all the snuggles he could while they were little and enjoyed sharing his hobbies with them as they got older. Being able to share his love of skiing with his grandkids brought him great joy. He also enjoyed swimming with them, taking them fishing and golfing, and cheering them on in their various sports.
Bob liked to be active and social. He seemed to know someone wherever he went or could easily strike up conversation with someone new. He was always willing to lend a hand. Whether it was helping in-laws with farming, his kids with renovations, or a neighbour with yard work or a repair, he was very handy and generous with his time.
Bob passed away unexpectedly, surrounded by family at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Thursday, December 25th, 2025.
