Obituary of Alexander Ruzycki

Alexander (Alex) John Ruzycki

May 18, 1940 - December 24, 2025

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Alex Ruzycki on December 24, 2025 in Brandon, MB with his loving wife, Shirley Ruzycki, by his side.

Alex was born in Humboldt, SK on May 18, 1940 to Alex and Frances Ruzycki. He was very active in sports growing up, specifically curling and hockey.

Alex worked for the Car department for CN in Humboldt Yard and after a brutally cold winter decided there had to be something better to do for a living.  He joined the Canadian Armed Forces and became a Military Police Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force where he earned his Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal (CPSM) for working with the United Nations as well as Canadian Forces’ Decoration (CD) medal for good service.

Alex was posted at a variety of air force bases through out his career 2 Wing: Starfighter Grostenquin, France, (Where he met Shirley and got married in March of 1963); RCAF (Radar Station) Gypsumville, MB; 22 Wing/Canadian Forces Base (CFB) North Bay, ON fighter jets, Bomark missile site and home of the SAG nuclear bunker; CFB White Spruce, SK (Radar Station), CFB Downsview, ON where he worked for the SIU (Special Investigations Unit) then back to North Bay, ON where he retired from the DND.  He then went to work at Mattabi Mines north of Ignace, ON. He then got the itch to take a shot at small business and purchased a couple of stores in Manitoba. That didn't last long as he figured a steady paycheck was better and moved to Hamilton, ON (go Hamilton Tiger-Cats!) and worked at Astro Polyfoam making Pool Noodles and other foam products.

Upon his retirement in 1995, Alex purchased a home in Ignace, ON where he spent many days on the local golf course.  He also purchased a small place in Texas to travel to every winter and be able to enjoy golfing year-round. He had many friends and loved having coffee with his buddies at the local coffee shops.

Unfortunately, his health started to fail and in the summer of 2025 Alex and Shirley moved to Rotary Villas in Brandon, MB. Although his time at Rotary Villas was short, he enjoyed the relaxed and friendly lifestyle.

Alex is predeceased by his parents Alex and Frances Ruzycki, brother Harry Ruzycki and sister Delores Peddie.

Alex is survived by his loving wife Shirley, daughter Anne Woodhouse (Martin), sons John Ruzycki (Shirley) and Jim Ruzycki (Donna). He is deeply missed by his granddaughter Diane Warner (Martin) and grandsons Carter Ruzycki and Jackson Ruzycki.

Anyone wishing to make a donation in Alex’s memory may make it to Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society of Canada.
