Lila Gregor

Obituary of Lila Gregor

GREGOR: Lila Agnes Gregor passed away unexpectedly at home on January 9, 2026. Lila was born in Carlyle, Saskatchewan on August 31, 1937 to parents John and Agnes Moore.

She completed Grade 12 in Carlyle and then moved to Brandon, MB where she met and married Ronald Rookes on April 19, 1957. They were blessed with two children, son Robert “Rob” and daughter Laurie.

Lila received her Bachelor of Education degree from Brandon University and taught for the Brandon School Division for 30 years. Following her retirement, Lila spent some time auditing courses at Brandon University and volunteering at the Daly House Museum. After some time, she then volunteered at the Nearly New Shop for 12 years which she looked forward to every week, and became friends with many of the ladies she worked with.

Lila married William “Bill” Gregor in 1984 and enjoyed 37 wonderful years together. They loved to travel and ventured to each corner of the USA from Washington State to California, Florida and New York State, as well as Hawaii. Many winters were spent relishing the warmer weather of Arizona. They went on one very special cruise which took them to the Cayman Islands, Jamaica and Mexico, and also really enjoyed their travels across Canada. Lila and Bill drove from the Pacific to Atlantic coasts, and even took a scenic train ride from Manitoba to British Columbia which Lila really enjoyed, but Bill not so much!

Lila was predeceased by her parents John and Agnes Moore, brother Lewis and sister-in-law Joyce Porterfield, sister Dot and brother-in-law Lloyd Smith, sister Barbara (Steve) Babiak, nieces Brenda and Susan Moore, nephews David and Gordon Moore, son Rob, and husbands Ronald and Bill.

Lila will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Laurie (Darryl) Clark, grand-daughter Jacqueline (Eric) Stuerzl, and grandson Ryan (Haley) Rookes-Fisher. She is also survived by her sisters Della (Jim) Ballingall, Lorna (Al) Lockhart, brother Gordon (Linda) Moore, as well as many nieces and nephews. And, Lila’s daughter-in-law Elaine Fisher, her son Rob’s wife, will remember the friendship they had for so many years. Lila will also be dearly missed by stepdaughter Carla Gregor (Tom Kennedy), stepson Dean Gregor, and step-grandchildren Kayla (Kris) Rainsville and Dustin (Tiffany) Gregor.

After her husband Bill passed away in 2021, Lila remained healthy and independent in her home, enjoyed reading, going for walks on sunny days, and looked forward to watching daily reruns of Murder She Wrote. Lila stayed in touch with many long time friends, was a kind and generous lady who cared about others, and never expected anything in return. She will be dearly missed.

Found in Lila’s personal notes is this … “I am forever grateful for life’s journey and the love of family and friends”.

A private interment will be held at Brandon Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers or gifts, those who wish may donate to the Nearly New Shop - Brandon Hospital Auxiliary (BRHC Auxiliary) or a charity of their choice.
