Lionel M Martin

Lionel Martin of Hartney, MB passed on January 27, 2026 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre at the age of 70 years. Lionel will be lovingly remembered by his wife Bernadette, son Shea, stepchildren Josie, Zane, Tyson, Greg and their families, as well as numerous other family and friends. He is predeceased by his parents John and Bernadette.

He was born in Hartney, MB on April 8, 1955. Lionel was always a big fan of sports, hockey, curling, and particularly baseball. He played for many teams over the years including the Westman Merchants, Lauder Parklanes, Hartney Imperials, Grande Clairiere Canucks and the Junior Kernels.

After farming with his dad, he purchased his own farm in 1990, consisting of grain and Simmental cattle. Bernadette and kids would later join him in 1998. Lionel's love for Simmental cattle led him to showing them, becoming a part of the Manitoba Simmental Association and growing his farm. While he had many interests, above all he was a people person. He made many friends throughout his life whether it be at an auction mart, on a bus trip, or out for a cup of coffee. He loved spending time with family and grandkids, camping, and taking in concerts and bus trips. It never mattered where he went, he would strike up a conversation with an old friend or make a new one.

Lionel will always be remembered for his love of sports, his love for farming and his love for family and friends.

The family wishes to thank the Brandon Regional Health Centre, as well as the Western Manitoba Cancer Centre.

A Celebration of Lionel’s Life will be held at the Victoria Inn – Grand Salon, 3550 Victoria Ave, Brandon, on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.
