Obituary of James "Bud" McLeod

James “Bud” Gordon McLeod of Hamiota, MB, formerly of the Rivers/Kirkham Bridge area, passed away with family by his side on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at the Hamiota Health Centre.  Bud was born on August 30, 1942 and attended Harrow School, leaving at an early age to farm with his dad. Bud quit farming in 1993 due to health reasons but continued to custom bale and haul hay until 2006.  Bud and Darlene worked alongside each other.  Bud enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and anything to be outside. Since moving to Hamiota in the spring of 2022 he enjoyed his couple of tomato plants that he attended to faithfully every day. He liked to go to whatever activity the grandchildren were doing. He often said that he had now seen every hockey rink in this part of the country. Bud and Darlene liked to go cruise around the countryside “checking the crops.”  Bud was a kind gentle man willing to help anyone and endured all of his health issues without complaining.  Bud met Darlene Boyd, of the Glanton district, in 1994 and were married in 1996, at which time they moved to the Kenton/Bradwardine area, then later into Rivers.  He invited Darlene’s three children into his life and treated them like his own.  Bud is survived by his wife of 29 years Darlene (Boyd), children; Shane (Sarah Bell) and grandchildren Riley (Courtney Richardson), Randy (Taliesha Pitman) and Jordan; Lori (Jeff Porter) and granddaughter Kayla (Jason Farley) and great-grandchildren Emily and Cashton Farley,  granddaughter Deanna (Steven Butson); Vern (Lara Bonikowsky) and granddaughter Samantha (Mitchell Bazinet) and great-granddaughter Anolah, grandchildren Amanda and Michael;  step-children Dawn Grace (Fred Belcourt) and granddaughter Talia (Nigel Nelson) and great-granddaughter Ellie,  grandson Layton (Essence Pashe) and great-granddaughter Delilah, grandson Calem; Darron Grace (Alexandria Ellis) and grandchildren Jaycob (Andrea Rousson), Elyjah, Lydia, Abbygail, Alyzabeth;  Dianne Grace (Danton Hintz) and grandchildren Hailen Pompana, Ayden Ducharme, Lawklan Pompana, Rylee Ducharme, Macyn Hintz and Quinn Hintz.  Bud is also survived by sisters Barb (Bill Sadler) and Dorothy Lofthouse, sister-in-law Evelyn Paddock as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  He is predeceased by his parents Jack and Marguerite ”Daisy” McLeod, in-laws  Archie and Eileen Boyd, brothers in-law Vince Lofthouse and Gerry Paddock, step great grandchildren Amity Garrioch and Archie Belcourt.  A private grave side service will be held at a later date.
