Norman Funk

Obituary of Norman Funk

Norman Leonard Funk passed away peacefully with family by his side at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

Norman was born on June 17, 1952 in Neepawa, MB.  He was born into a large family, and at a very young age was placed into foster care in the loving home of Fedra and Owen Brown. Norman attended Earl Haig School, completing his education at Neelin High School. He also took courses in industrial safety in 1988 and woodcrafting in 2007. After completing high school he went to work with Zenith Paving as a labourer. On May 1, 1976 he went to work at McKenzie Seeds.  After a long career of 39 years, he retired in 2015.

Norman had many loving memories throughout his life. He always told the stories of how he did his dad’s banking, having tea with his mom and walking their dog Bo down to 7 Eleven for his nightly dixie cup of ice cream.

One of the highlights of Norm’s life was backpacking through Europe with his nephew Shawn. In three weeks they travelled by train through many countries, staying in hostels. It was a trip of a lifetime for both of them.

Normie, as the family called him, loved to spend time at the family cabin at Clear Lake. He purchased a boat and the family spent many hours waterskiing, tubing and fishing on the boat, sometimes it was a time to just go and relax and enjoy the warmth of the day.

He was a hard core gamer, spending many hours playing with his great nephew Greg and in later years with his great niece Shae-Lynne. Normie was a wonderful uncle who spent many hours babysitting and playing games with Greg. He would quite often call Greg’s parents to see if they needed to go out just so he could go and babysit and play games. He was the greatest dog and house sitter and on occasion when Sonya and Ralf were away he would also take care of the Wheat Kings players that stayed with them.

Norm and his lifelong partner Trina shared many interests. They loved going to yard and antique sales. They always returned home with some treasure they had found. They enjoyed their trips to Nelson, BC to visit Trina’s family. In later years Norman connected with some of his birth siblings, and they enjoyed going for coffee and to car shows.

Norm had a positive impact on everyone’s life and will be missed by many family and friends.

A memorial service was held at the Brandon Cemetery on Friday, February 13, 2026 with Ralf Kampe as eulogist. His brother Fred said the prayer and Greg Murpy and Shae-Lynn acted as urn bearers.
