Obituary of Sheila Reid
In Loving Memory of Sheila Reid
December 5, 1955 – June 17, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mom, grandma, great-grandma, partner, sister, and friend, Sheila Reid, on June 17, 2026, at Brandon Regional Health Centre in Brandon, Manitoba. Her passing has left a hole in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Sheila was born on December 5, 1955, and was raised in Ocher River, Manitoba. As the only girl among four children, she spent her younger years keeping up with her three brothers, an experience that helped shape the strong, independent, and caring woman she became. She attended Ocher River School until Grade 8 before continuing on to Dauphin Regional Comprehensive School.
Throughout her life, Sheila worked hard and took pride in everything she did. She worked at the No. 1 Legion and the Sir Sam Steele Legion in Winnipeg before spending many years in the restaurant industry as both a cook and waitress. In later years, she became a familiar face at the Highway Esso in Brandon, where she worked as a cashier attendant until her passing. She loved visiting with customers and never missed an opportunity to stop for a chat or share a laugh.
She was incredibly proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and if you met her, chances are she had a picture ready to show you. She loved spending time coloring, playing crib, going out for meals, catching a movie, and enjoying countless outings with her dear friend, Colleen. Sheila had a gift for making people feel welcome and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. Her smile, sense of humor, and caring heart will be remembered forever.
Sheila will be lovingly remembered by her common-law partner, John Gareau; her brother, Bob Freeman; her children, Jason Reid and partner Tamara , Shaun Reid and partner Susan, and Kelly Reid; her 9 cherished grandchildren; and her 13 treasured great-grandchildren, along with extended family members, and friends whose lives she touched over the years.
Sheila was predeceased by her parents, Lloyd and Mary Freeman; her husband, Ronald Reid; and her brothers, George Freeman and Gord Freeman.
The family invites everyone who knew and loved Sheila to join them in celebrating her life on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the North End Community Centre, 1313 Stickney Avenue, Brandon, Manitoba. A come-and-go luncheon will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Our hearts are broken, but we find comfort in knowing that Sheila's love, kindness, laughter, and beautiful spirit will live on through the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed every day and lovingly remembered forever.
