Obituary of Ellen Nunns

NUNNS: Ellen Nunns of Brandon passed away as a result of a heart attack on Friday, April 5, 2013. Ellen was born in Regent, Manitoba and was raised in Antler, SK. Her father, David Hean (Ida), was an elevator agent for many years before moving into Brandon. Ellen moved to the city when she finished school, and worked as a hairdresser. She married Kenneth Nunns in 1945 and they had three children before the marriage ended ten years later. She raised the children alone and when all were in high school went to work for Federal Pioneer Electric on the assembly line. She worked there until she retired at age 65. She was a member of the St. Augustine's Church congregation for more than seventy years and was involved with the Catholic Women's League. She was an avid curler and fan, and still bowled weekly. She always had a funny story to tell, usually about something she had done, and spread the laughter generously. She learned to drive when all her children moved west and made many trips to visit her family. Ellen is survived by her son Carl (Barb) from Coquitlam, BC, her daughter Iris from Didsbury, AB, and her son Garry (Barb) from Fort McMurray, AB, one grandson Geoffrey (Jennifer) and four granddaughters, Melanie (Adriano) Iozzo, Tracy Stillwell, Jennifer (Greg) Ross and Amanda Nunns and seven great grandchildren. Ellen was predeceased by her infant son Earl, her sister Kathleen Peloquin and brother Charles Hean. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Interment followed at the Brandon City Cemetery with her late son, Earl. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ellen may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, 327- 4th Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 3E5.
