Carman A. Hesse

Obituary of Carman A. Hesse

HESSE: It is with great sadness that the family of Carman Hesse, beloved husband of Marian, said goodbye to him on April 9, 2013 at the age of 74 years. Carman Albert Hesse was born January 27, 1939 to Alice and Albert Hesse in Belmont, Manitoba. His early years were spent in Minto, Kelso, Griswold, Belmont and Wawanesa. His working years were spent at Manco Dairies, BRHC and BMHC. Carman and Marian met and were later married in Wawanesa, MB. After moving to Brandon, they raised their family of four children in the Green Acres area before moving to "The Farm" near Kemnay. It was here that he spent many enjoyable hours farming, tending his cattle, gardening and opening their home to family and friends. An avid outdoorsman, Carman enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, gardening, fishing and camping to name just a few. The family took advantage of their weekends and summer holidays to explore many campgrounds and enjoy their time together. Many great stories were told around a roaring campfire with a circle of family and friends. Carman had a special place in his heart for his children, which later grew to include his devoted grandchildren. A doting grandfather, he and Marian took the grandkids on many travelling adventures and turned their yard into a young child's dream. Many family and friends were also quickly "adopted" and soon referred to Carman as Grandpa, Uncle or "my other Dad." Carman and Marian always enjoyed touring the countryside and shared many great outings with friends over the years. Carman was predeceased by his parents, Alice and Albert Hesse, his brother Gordon, sister Alvine Gray, mother and father-in-law Pearl and Herb Gullett, and sister-in-law Ruth. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Marian (née Gullett), daughters Terri (Kirk), children Lindsay and Kasie; Tracy (Rick), children Brett (Sabrina), Adam and Kristen; Deb (Alex) and son Brad (Jody), children Marian, Alice and Charlie. Carman is also survived by his brother Buck, four sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews, all of whom Uncle Carm loved to tease. Since his diagnosis with ALS, Carman developed and even greater appreciation of his time spent with family and friends. A come and go memorial reception was held at Prairie Oasis on the afternoon of April 13th. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to all of those who attended, sent cards, flowers, food and kind words. A special thank you to friends and neighbours whose generous assistance allowed Carman to stay at home, as well as Dr. Butler and the staff of Station 2 at the Brandon Clinic for the compassion and respect shown to Carm during his illness. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Carman may be made to the ALS Society of Manitoba, 493 Madison Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3J 1J2 or to a charity of choice. Death leaves a heartache No one can heal Love leaves a memory No one can steal
