Irene Donogh

Obituary of Irene Margaret Donogh

Irene Margaret Donogh of Hillcrest Place went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 17, 2013 at age 90. Irene was born March 20, 1923 in Shellmouth Municipality, Inglis, Manitoba to Herb and Jessie Adams. She attended Thundercreek School until grade 9 and completed her grade 12 at Russell High School. Irene came to know the Lord in her early 20's and spent three years attending Northwestern Bible College in Minneapolis. She then moved to Winnipeg where she took a business course and worked for the Federal Government. Her next place of work was with Canadian Sunday School Mission in Winnipeg until 1959, when she moved to Brandon and married Harold Donogh, a widower whose daughter Faye was eleven years old at the time. Irene was a devoted wife and wonderful stepmother and Harold and Faye were blessed beyond measure to have her in their lives. In 1960, Irene began working for the Federal Government of Canada in Medical Services (Indian and Northern Health Services) until her retirement in 1988. She was an active member of McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church for many years, serving on numerous committees. Her greatest passion was keeping others informed of the work and prayer concerns of the missionaries the church supported. She was a gracious hostess and enjoyed gardening, growing flowers and picking berries. She loved to travel, travelling with her sister Ruth to England, Ireland and Scotland and also Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand. The highlight was visiting Manorom Hospital in Thailand where Ruth was the matron for many years. She was predeceased by her parents Herb and Jessie Adams, husband Harold (1982) and son-in-law Ron Johnston (1979). Irene will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Faye (Neil) Rempel, her sister Ruth Adams, grandsons Tim (Toni), Rhett (Liz), great granddaughter Eve and nieces, nephews and friends. The family is so grateful for the love, care and compassion Irene received while living at Hillcrest Place. A Celebration of Irene's life was held at McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church on July 23, 2013 with Pastor Earl Ricalton officiating. Interment took place at the Brookside Cemetery in Winnipeg. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Irene may be made to the McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church, 635 McDiarmid Drive, Brandon, MB, R7B 2H6 or to a charity of choice.
