Obituary of Ramona Pratt-Fontaine

PRATT – FONTAINE: Ramona Gail. Tunkan Homni Win (Rolling Stone Woman) July 29, 1952 - August 10, 2013. Peacefully, with her family and relatives by her side, Ramona entered her journey back to the Creator and Lord after a courageous battle with cancer. Ramona was predeceased by her parents, the Rev. Donald and Beatrice Pratt of Sioux Valley Dakota Nation as well as her brother Brian, sister Rose, son Lyle Lee, a grandchild, Sarah and Hunka sister, Sandy Circle Bear. She leaves to mourn her spouse and best friend, Stan, sisters, Rowena (Silas), Barb, Donna, Laura (Lawrence), Audrey, brothers Hunka brother Joe Circle Bear, Garnet (Nora) Gompf, Steve Davis, Dave (Bev) Pratt, Gerry (Wanda) Bell, James (Barb Blacksmith) Ironman, Roland Ironman, her sons, Lance and Jacy, daughter Bianca, adopted daughter Tara Tacan and ten grandchildren including Laniel (Autumn), Lance Jr., Gene, Autumn, Willey, William, Wakiya, Wiyaka, Wiyakpa and Washaka and three great grandchildren, Chancy, Cole and Andy. Ramona was very active in her community as a child and family services worker for many years. She served as a board member for the Native Addictions Council for approximately eight years. Ramona's greatest gift was the love she showed towards others. Many of her clients, relatives and friends have come to know her for her great compassion and loving service towards others. Her grandchildren have also known about their "loving Kunshi." It goes without saying that Ramona left a great footprint in the hearts of people everywhere. Ramona had a great sense of humor as well and, a few days before her demise, she was seen laughing and joking with many of her relatives from her hospital bed. She had a spirituality which kept her strong and calm in facing the storms of life. Ramona gave it 100% as she realized the great needs of people everywhere. She saw the need for new approaches to correct a flawed system and tried to bring about loving change through the hearts of people. But her strength and energy was waning and during the last days of her life on earth she fought desperately to stay alive in order to present a proposal for a children's healing centre. Her illness, however, interfered with her dream. Realizing the need for forgiveness in healing, a few days before her demise, she said," Lord, be merciful to me, a sinner." Ramona lived loved and served her Creator well. Her favorite saying was: "To God the Father." "Meanwhile these three remain: faith, hope and love; and the greatest of these is love." ( I Cor. 13: 13) We would like to thank the doctors and staff of both the Brandon Regional Health Centre and the Assiniboine Centre for their tireless efforts in providing the best comfort during Ramona's last days. Thank you, too, to all relatives and friends who came to be with her by her bedside. A Wake will be held at the Jacy Pratt residence in Sioux Valley on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Jacy's residence at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Pratt family Cemetery.
