Obituary of Winnifred Agnes Wolfe

WOLFE Winnifred Agnes Wolfe (Cathcart) of Alexander, Manitoba, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on August 19, 2013 at the age of 82 years. Winnie was born on March 4, 1931 at MacGregor, Manitoba. She grew up at the ranch at Pratt, Manitoba. She was schooled at Pratt, Great Carlton, Southfield and MacGregor. Winnie was a permit teacher at Hermfield School for one year. She then went to Normal School and graduated in 1951. Winnie went on to teach at Spring Valley School for three years. This is when she met Harris Wolfe, a farmer in the Tarbolton district, northwest of Alexander. Winnie and Harris wed on July 3, 1954 in MacGregor. She gave up teaching and became a full-time farm wife and ultimately mother. She was an avid gardener with vegetables and flowers in ample supply. Besides spending time with family and her garden, her other joys included: nature, watching birds, long walks, crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble and in earlier days, dancing. She volunteered as a director for the Harding Agricultural Society for over 35 years and secretary for the Tarbolton UCW for 19 years. Whenever there was a clean-up being done at the church and cemetery, she was there. Winnie's senior years were rife with ill-health, which was frustrating for her, but with which she met with perseverance. She was predeceased by her parents Arnold and Valera Cathcart; sister Margaret Bax; brothers Bryan, Clayton and Gerald Cathcart; brothers-in-law Gordon Purkess, Joe Bax, Edward Wolfe, and John Wedderburn; and sister-in-law Tina Cathcart. Winnie leaves to mourn her husband Harris; son Mark (Candace); grandchildren Braden, Emma, and Chelsea; and daughter Arlene. She is also survived by sister Mae Purkess; sisters-in-law Doreen Wedderburn, Mavis Shelvey, Marjorie Wolfe, Diane Cain, and Yvonne Cathcart; aunt Ruby Cathcart; and many nieces and nephews. Winnie's life was celebrated on August 23, 2013 at a graveside service at Tarbolton Cemetery with Funeral Celebrant Kim Lewarne officiating. Urn bearer was grandson Braden Wolfe and eulogist was daughter Arlene Wolfe. A time of fellowship followed at the family farm.
