Obituary of Myrtle Teichrow

TEICHROW: Annie "Myrtle." It is with sadness the family of Myrtle Teichrow announces that her death occurred Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Fairview Home. Born December 10, 1919, the eldest of ten children to Donald and Elizabeth (nee Gedcke) in Kindersley, Saskatchewan. She grew up on the family farm, helping raise her siblings. She received her Grade 8 education. In her teenage years, she moved to Winnipeg, working for the Bristol Airport, assembling parts to help with the war effort. It was there in Winnipeg that she met Henry Teichrow. They were married on November 20, 1046. From this union, two sons were born. Laurie in August 1947 and David in November 1948. The family enjoyed traveling, camping and picnicking. The family then moved to Headingley, Kemnay and finally settled in Brandon. Myrtle worked various jobs. In the summer of 1966, she was predeceased by her husband. Myrtle decided to attend Assiniboine Community College and enrolled in Business classes. She received honorable grades from which she obtained a position with the Manitoba Hydro Telecommunications Department. This job was held until her retirement in 1985. Pursuing other goals, she started swimming lessons at the Sportsplex at age 66. At 68, she began taking organ lessons. Another favorite interest was that of raising, training, and showing her Pugs. She travelled extensively across Canada to dog shows winning many ribbons. She also judged for many dog shows. She loved to travel. A trip to New Zealand, Australia, Alaska and many U.S. states and Canadian provinces. Myrtle loved gardening, her flowers, photography and crossword puzzles. She enjoyed visiting with her friends, playing cards, shuffleboard or bingo, whist or crib. Myrtle is survived by her children, Laurie (Joan), David (Dolly), grandchildren, Travis Teichrow (Chantel), Cynthia Teichrow (Troy), Christopher Teichrow (Trisha). Her extended family, grandchildren Christine Schoonbaert (Brad), David Veer (Jocelin), Ryan Phinney (Connie), Bobby Phinney (Trisha), great-grandchildren Stefan Teichrow, Teegan and Van Teichrow, Brooke, Mercedes, Bailey Teichrow. Her extended family, great-grandchildren Brittany, Bradley and Brooke Schoonbaert, Ryder and Prestyn Phinney. Also surviving is one sister, Patricia Bolen (Mike) of Salmon Arm, BC. A service celebrating Myrtle's life will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Monday, September 23, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Orton Anderson officiating.
