Obituary of Robert Donald "Don" Henson

HENSON: It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Robert Donald "Don" Henson on Friday, October 4, 2013 at the age of 74. Don was employed with Manitoba Hydro for 36 ½ years as a truck driver and a few years after retiring, Don began driving a semi for Paul's Hauling for approximately eight years. Don was involved in the community, always wanting to give back. He was a UCT member for almost 30 years; he also served as a volunteer host at the Wheat King home games for eight years, and was involved with the Travellers Day Parade for over 13 years. Don loved to vacation, whether travelling to visit family or cruising with friends! Don will be greatly missed by his loving wife Gladys, his children Carla (Allan) Hansen of Calgary, Mark (Lori) of Brandon and his loving grandkids Eric and Marissa Hansen and Ryan Henson. Don is also survived by his brothers Joe (Beve) of Calgary, Frank (Marlette) of Portage and his sister Joanne Hamilton of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; as well as his in-laws Marg Friesen of Edmonton, Fred (Linda) Addison of Moosomin, Fred Miller of Brandon, Alex (Ev) Addison of McAuley, Irene Prouten of Brandon and Carol (Ralph) Gara of Brandon, as well as dozens of nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by his parents Albert and Besse Henson, mother and father-in-law Albert and Lila Addison, granddaughter Kira Hansen, sister-in-law Myrtle Miller and brother-in-law Charlie Hamilton. A Celebration of Don's Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion No. 3, 560-13th Street East, on Friday, October 11, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, #3-824-18th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 5B7.
