MOONEY: Diane Mooney, aged 65, surrounded by family, died peacefully in Brandon, MB on October 26, 2013 after a courageous struggle with cancer. Diane was born April 29, 1948 in Ste. Rose, MB, daughter of Mary and Metro Boyechko. She grew up on the family farm in the Weiden District, attending Weiden Elementary School and Rorketon Collegiate. At the age of 17, she began her work career with the Singer Sewing Co. of Canada where she learned the art of sewing, enabling her to create beautiful outfits for her mother and herself and later costumes for her children. In 1967, Diane moved to Thompson, MB and in 1969, married and was blessed with four children; Leanne, Kevin, Janie and Tim. She began her career in government in 1979, with the Department of Indian Affairs, later transferring to the Department of Natural Resources in Brandon where she remained until retiring in 2003. Diane met her husband Blake in Brandon and they were married in 1990. They loved to travel together and had the opportunity to participate in the Communities in Blooms conferences across the country at which they had incredible experiences. They also loved to travel outside Canada, with Cuba and the Dominion Republic becoming their favorite destinations. Diane was involved in many community groups and activities over the years. Her greatest pride was coaching the age 4 and 5 YBC bowlers allowing her to share her love of the game. She attained her Masters Coaching Certificate, and was President of the Brandon Bowling Association for several terms. Diane won many medals both at the Provincial and National levels. Golf was her other passion, highlights being: President of the Glenlea Ladies League for several years, Board Member of the LPGA, long-time member of the Shilo Country Club. Diane participated in many tournaments, including her favorite, the Tamarack. The Army and Navy also benefited from Diane's expertise as President for two years, as when she became a member of a group, it meant total commitment and involvement. Diane was predeceased by her father Metro Boyechko in 2001, and step-granddaughter Danielle Miskulin in 2006. She is survived by Blake her husband of 23 years, mother Mary Boyechko of Dauphin, four children and six grandchildren; Leanne Miskulin (Mark), Emma, Jack; Kevin Lukey (Edie) Chayton, Dayle; Janie Lukey (Will Bruce); Tim Lukey (Carlene) Ryan, Cory.
