Darlene and family, Ken and I wish to send our sympathies on the sad news of Clare's passing. He was a wonderful man with a great sense of humor and always willing to be helpful. I enjoyed trying to learn the line-dancing with the two of you here at Riverside park. We feel blessed to have had the opportunity to have known Clare. Regards Terry and Ken Lochhead , Keremeos

Darlene & family ~~~
I was saddened when you informed me of Clare's passing. Ironically Darlene, my husband Ian & your husband Clare passed away within a month of one another, both having battled Leukemia in 2013. As back to back neighbors on McDiarmid & Creighton Drives in Brandon for many years, our girls were Valleyview school friends of Caroline, Ian & Craig - Caroline was the first friend to call on Shauna when we moved from Winnipeg to Brandon in 1972. I have fond memories of my Ian (former President of then Westman Cable, (now, Westman Media Co-op) & your Clare on that same Board of Directors, applying for (& finally securing) Cablevision for the City of Brandon.. Our thoughts & prayers are with you & your family at this difficult time.
In Sympathy,
Sharon (Stott) Bobiak, Shauna, Heidi & families

Clare was one of the friends I cherish from my early memories of Brandon College and Knox Church, someone who just dropped in for a cup of coffee, well respected in the community and a man of integrity. His memory will live long in the hearts of those who knew and respected him.

Though Clare's physical presence will be sorely missed, the wisdom, innovation and deep care for family and community that he instilled in all who took the time to know him will continue to be alive and well throughout the region. He imparted in me a firm belief that anything is possible if one only has the courage to look at things differently and not be afraid to try. We truly have lost a great man.

Clare was a great friend of my parents, Gordon and Barbara Sefton. Dad and Clare used to drive around Brandon on summer nights in the early 60's fogging for mosquitoes. They worked on many church projects together. Clare was "Baloo" in my Cubs and Scouts pack. He was always an exceptional leader, the epitome of honesty, integrity and compassion. He and Darlene were great supports to my mom when Dad died in 2001, and to the family when mom passed away in 2010.
The contributions facilitated by Clare's vision, commitment and passion make Brandon a better place.

Clare is someone I have always remembered fondly from back in Brandon and Clear Lake days. The night on Clear Lake when he netted the biggest fish I ever caught - a monster pickerel (getting bitten by it in the process) - has certainly cemented his place in my Hall of Fame.

So sorry to hear of Clare's recent death. The Coburn family were friends with my family for several years and a few generations. My parents considered Clare and Darlene to be good friends. Thinking of all the family at this sad time.

Well said! The Burgesses had no better friends than Clare and Darlene. I am remembering my last visit to their place when Clare took me around the garden. The man grew a mean tomato. He was Dad's best pal. We will miss him tremendously.

Clare has been a part of our family's life for more than 55 years. I've lost track of the number of times that Clare came to the rescue in recent years as we dealt with the failing health of both my parents. He was always such a "rock", someone we could turn to for advice and help, not to mention samples of his latest homemade wine or bread! He made such a difference in the lives of many. He will be well and truly missed.
