Obituary of Marie Millicent Cleaver

CLEAVER: On November 30, after a brief illness, Marie passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre with her family by her side. Mom was born on March 21, 1925 at home on the Curle family farm in the R.M. of Odanah. She was the fourth of five children and shared her early years with three brothers and one sister. She went to school at Moore Park and when her Mom died at an early age, Mom stepped in and cared for the family. Mom met Dad (Harold) and they were married on May 31, 1951 in Winnipeg. Mom and Dad lived on the family farm until 1996 when Dad's health began to fail and they moved to an apartment on Ottawa Avenue in Brandon. Dad died in 1998 and Mom lived an active life in the same apartment until illness took her to the Brandon Regional Health Centre. The week before her passing, she had made her daily trek to the mall with her sister-in-law, Ella, for their daily coffee gathering. She was a homemaker all her life and always loved to be surrounded by family and friends. She led an active life in the Justice Community; curling, baby band and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Legion. In town, she was always busy with friends and attended bingo once a week - rain or shine. Mom is survived by her children, Louise (Tom) Adamski of Brandon; Brian (Lynn) of Justice and her four grandchildren, Paula (Clayton) Canart, Kevin (Amanda) Cleaver, Ricky and Mitchell Cleaver; her two great grandchildren Ava Canart and Mya-Lynn Cleaver. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Ella Boyd, Rita Curle and Olivia Curle. A Memorial Service was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on Friday, December 6, 2013 with Rev. Barb Jardine officiating. Interment took place at the Moore Park Cemetery. Donations in memory of Marie may be made to a charity of one's choice.
