Obituary of Barbara Evelyn Marshall

MARSHALL: Barbara Evelyn Marshall, beloved widow of James (Jim) Marshall, passed away peacefully at her residence, Fairview Home, on December 6, 2013. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Brian (Shirley) of Saanichton, BC, Stuart (Lynda) of Winnipeg and Ardis (Jerry) Mus of Brandon. She will also be sadly missed by nine grandchildren and their spouses as well as thirteen great grandchildren. Barbara is also survived by her three remaining sisters, Ruth Parker of Winnipeg, Eliza Watson and Phyllis McDougall of Portage la Prairie and sister-in-law Laurie McKinnon of Vancouver, BC, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was born and raised on the family farm NW of Portage la Prairie, to Alex and Joanna McKay on January 5, 1917. Following her graduation as a nurse at BMHC, Barbara married Jim Marshall. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother and great grandmother, always showing great support no matter what endeavours they faced. Barbara spent many hours volunteering for several organizations in the community throughout her active years, as well as being employed by the Federal Government, retiring in 1981. She was an avid reader, enjoyed knitting, sewing, cooking and crocheting. Barbara was extremely proud of the fact that she has belonged to Naomi Rebekah Lodge #6 for 69 years. Despite the fact she had been stricken with polio as a young mother, it never stopped her from moving forward and always thinking of others. Barbara will always be remembered for her great strength and determination as well as her never ending love and kindness. She will be missed. A Celebration of Barbara's life was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Saturday, December 14, 2013. Interment took place at the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Barbara may be made to the Westman Dreams for Kids Foundation, Unit 2-37-11th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 4J2.
