Obituary of Marian Vorspel
VORSPEL: Marian Vorspel (July 31, 1945 - December 8, 2013)
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Marian Vorspel.
Marian was born in Tilburg, The Netherlands on July 31, 1945; she was the 11th child of a family of 12. Mom immigrated to Canada in 1968 to join Dad, who had immigrated the year before. They were married on July 19, 1968 and spent 45 years of marriage building a life together.
Mom worked at the Clinic Pharmacy as a pharmacy technician for 25 years. She did her training as a pharmacy technician in Holland and when she started working as a technician, the pharmacists had not heard of this kind of training. She always surprised them with her knowledge and abilities, especially the measuring and mixing of the compounds.
Mom loved to garden, her yard was always full of beautiful flowers, and vegetables growing in neat rows. Mom enjoyed sewing, knitting, baking, cooking and creating a home that was cozy and welcoming to her family and friends. Mom had a beautiful singing voice and sang in the choir at St. Augustine's church.
Mom rejoiced in her grandchildren. Oma was deeply in love with her 5 grandchildren. Oma would spend hours with the kids, going for walks, reading books, singing songs, baking and playing in the park. As the kids got older, she would spend time talking with them, playing games with them. Oma would watch the kids play their sports and perform on many a stage. Oma would bake bucket loads of cookies for the kids and with the kids. Dinosaur shaped cookies, flower shaped cookies and cookies with new and exciting ingredients that needed to be experimented with. Oma's grandkids are blessed to have been loved so deeply by this amazing woman. Her courage and will to live in the face of a devastating illness have affected the kids and her legacy will live on through these 5 wonderful people.
The grandkids are not the only people that have been affected by Mom. Throughout her illness, Mom has persevered, showing bravery and courage that has been an inspiration to us all. Mom had a deep love for God and knew that He was always taking care of her, even when things looked very bleak her faith in God stayed strong. Mom was not a passive observer in her life, she did everything she could to stay as healthy as possible and to wring every last drop of life out of every day.
Mom was predeceased by her parents, her brother Henk, and four sisters Corry, Wil, Gerry, Riek.
Mom leaves to mourn her loving devoted husband Marc. Her daughter Audrey, husband Kevin and their three children, Matthew, Adrienne and Nathalie. Her daughter Heather and her two children, Eric and Benjamin. Her brothers Jan, Anton, Simon and her sisters Ine, Joop and Nel and their families. She leaves to mourn many dear friends.
