Our condolences to everyone in the Hopkie family. Being at Sandy Lake will not be the same. Your folks were always such great neighbours there it will not be the same without them. Your dad was always willing to till up the beach for us when our kids were young so that they could enjoy the beach. In fact he did that this summer when our grandson was there so that he too could enjoy the beach. When I had issues with no water pressure at the cabin, he came to my rescue no questions asked. After reading some of the messages here I can see that your dad had a great impact on a lot of people over the years. May you each find comfort in your own memories of him. Rest in Peace James.

Dear Shane & Nancy, Darren and Bryce
Heartfelt - is the only way to describe how much it meant to us when your Mom and Dad, went on a long adventure to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories to attend our Wedding and bask in the sunshine on the longest day of year. Heartfelt is remembering your Dad's laughter and wondering what "those boys were up to this time". Heartfelt knowing it takes a community to raise a child, and the many children that he took under his wing until they were ok to fly on their own and become strong, loving husbands and fathers they are today. Heartfelt is knowing how much your Dad made a difference in so many lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Love Howard, Bonita and Angela Nowell, Yellowknife, NWT

I want to share a prayer with you that gave me some comfort when my grandparents passed away.
First Nation Prayer
I give you this one thought to keep—
I am with you still—I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
of quite birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not think of me as gone—
I am with you still—in each new dawn.

My deepest condolences to Bryce and family. As a pround union member, I always looked up to your father. He was a great spokesman for local 901. I got to know him better in the late 90's early 2000's when we worked together on several crane training courses, as well as provincial curriculum for crane training school. He was extremely knowlegeable about all of the ins and outs of how things should be run and was a lot of fun to be around especially after the work day was done. My thoughts are with you at this sad time.

My sincere condolences to the Hopkie family. I first met and worked with Jim in Thompson in 1961. We were both equipment operators and Labour Bosses. We then locked horns (not always favourably, but always respectfully) in the mid 70's when he was president of the union and I owned a trenching company. We met occasionally over the years and my memories of him will always be cherished.
