Obituary of Elsie Lisowski

LISOWSKI: Elsie Lisowski passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, January 19, 2014 at her residence, Fairview Personal Care Home, Brandon. Elsie was born October 14, 1924 in Portage la Prairie, MB to Mary (Malanchuk) and William Trakalo, where she resided and received her education. When her mother died, Elsie took on the role of helping to care for her younger brother, household tasks and assisting her father in the family business. In 1946, Elsie met the love of her life, Charles (Chuck) Lisowski and they were married in July, 1948. In 1952, Elsie and Chuck relocated to Brandon, where in partnership with his brother John and uncle Michael Wawrykow, took ownership of the Cecil Hotel. Elsie enjoyed tending to her flowers, knitting afghans and visiting with neighbours, who, over the years became dear friends. She also worked for several years for jewellers Breslaur and Warren and McCallum's. Elsie had a passion for style as reflected in her beautiful outfits. She enjoyed the company of her dog who brought her comfort, especially after the passing of her beloved husband. Elsie was a faithful member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church and the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League. Elsie was predeceased by her husband in 1989, parents, brother-in-law John and his wife, Ethel Lisowski. Elsie is survived by her brother Bill (Polly) of Kelowna, BC, niece Andrea (Kevin Quist and sons Logan and Brandon) of Vernon, BC, nephews Rick (Bev) Lisowski and Ken (Marge) Lisowski and their families, cousins and caregivers, Anna and Walter Pollock and numerous other cousins. Divine Liturgy will be held at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 927 Assiniboine Avenue, Brandon, on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Michael Tkachuk as Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Elsie may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 415-1st Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 2W8 or to St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 927 Assiniboine Avenue, Brandon, MB, R7A 0G7.
