Obituary of Cecile Elize Usunier

USUNIER: The family wishes to sadly announce the passing of Cecile Elize Usunier (née Carême), beloved wife of the late André Usunier. Cecile passed away at her residence, Fairview Home, Brandon, on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at the age of 90 years. Cecile was born October 11, 1923 on the family farm in Findlay, MB. She was the second youngest of a family of eleven. As a young girl, she enjoyed outdoor activities with her siblings and spending time with her animals, especially horses. After finishing school, she remained at home to help her father and family run the farm. It was during this time that she met André Usunier at a small town dance. They were married in December of 1946 and shortly after moved to Brandon. They spent the rest of their lives in Brandon raising their five children. Cecile was devoted to her family. She enjoyed preparing family dinners and playing cards almost daily with anyone who dropped by. Any free time was spent volunteering with St. Augustine's CWL, Ladies Auxiliary Royal Canadian Legion #3 and the Red Cross. Cecile is survived by sons Paul (Elaine), Francis (Rhonda), Ray (Pat); daughters Judy (Tim) Quadrelli and Elaine (Dan) Gavigan. Grandchildren Marc (Kendra) Usunier, Alison Usunier (Mark Brischuk), Michael Usunier (Danica Pineiro), Matthew and Mark Usunier, Marcia (Mark) Benway, Rayna (Nolan) Robinson, Nicolette Quadrelli (Joel VanderSchaaf), Tyler, Meghan and Andrea Gavigan. Great-Grandchildren Buck and Lark VanderSchaaf and Lane Robinson. Brother Ed Carême and sisters-in-law Stella Carême, Leona Usunier, Edith Bertholet, Marie Brause, Teresa Usunier, Suzanne (Ken) Anderson and numerous nieces and nephews. Cecile was predeceased by her parents Ramond and Lucie (née Marcq) Carême, her loving husband André, an infant daughter Judith, brothers Nick, Frank, John, Leon, Joseph, sisters Leontine Cancade, Marie Gregoire, Lucie Leech, Louise Deleau, three infant siblings and daughter-in-law, Gaye Usunier. Mass of Christian Burial took place at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, January 25, 2014 with Fr. John Okosun as Celebrant. Interment followed in the Veterans' Section at the Brandon Cemetery. Active Pallbearers were Joe Carême, Ron Carême, George Lampertz, Tim Quadrelli, Denys Usunier and Garth Wakefield. All in attendance were considered Honorary Pallbearers. In memory of Cecile, donations may be made to the Fairview Home Foundation, 1351-13th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 4S6.
