Obituary of Dale Rae Baker

BAKER: It is with great sadness that the family of Dale Rae Baker informs you that Dale passed away peacefully on Monday, February 3, 2014 with her family at her side at the young age of 63. Dale was predeceased by her parents Raymond and Sylvia and Stepfather Bill. Left to cherish her memory is husband Roy, sons Duane (Gina) and Tyler (Jessica), grandchildren Gabriel, Ethan, Brooke, Faithe, Dylan, brother Russell (Donna), Uncle Russell (Edith) Langseth, several nieces, nephews and extended family members. Dale was born in Hamiota, Manitoba and lived on the family farm near Birtle, Manitoba. Her parents sold the farm and moved the family to Virden. Her dad's career took the family to Regina, Saskatchewan and eventually back to Virden. When she was 13 years old, her father was killed in a tragic car accident. There were a few more years of moving around after her father's accident and their journey eventually took them to Duluth, Minnesota where her mother had purchased a motel. Her mother met a man there that would become her Stepfather. Dale did not want to go to school in Duluth, so she attended high school at St. Michael's Academy in Brandon, Manitoba. In the summer, when school was on break, she returned to Duluth to help her mother with the motel. Her next school stop was Neelin High School where she met her future husband Roy. Roy and Dale lived on the Family farm south of Brandon where they had two children, Duane and Tyler. Roy and Dale decided to buy a farm south of the Brandon Hills and give farming a go on their own. While Roy worked the farm, Dale worked in Brandon at various car dealerships. When the decision was made to sell the farm, they moved to Brandon where Dale took up several careers in retail. Some of Dale's favourite things to do were farming, gardening, camping, and being part of the Brandon Hills Fireflies. She enjoyed entertaining company, traveling, five pin bowling and Elvis Presley. She will be missed with all our hearts and we'll always cherish the times we spent together. She was always there when we needed her. She is a mother and wife, and in that role there was not a better, stronger, or more loving person. She did everything she was supposed to do and more – she took care of her family when they were sick, celebrated their victories, comforted them in defeat, and protected them from those that dared to harm them. She provided guidance as her family grew. She was selfless to a fault and always put others ahead of herself. The times that she was able to spend with family and friends were the most important times of her life. Dale was a remarkable person and it is doubtful she ever realized the impact that she had on so many people's lives. Dale will be deeply missed by all. Dale's family would like to thank all the staff at the Assiniboine Centre and Fairview Home for their wonderful care. The funeral service was held at Central United Church on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Harvey Hurren officiating. Interment followed at the Brandon Hills Cemetery. Active Pallbearers were nieces Sue Farguson, Jill Elvers, and nephews, Darren Baker, Ray Everett, Harlan Andrews and Travis Fife. Donations in Dale's memory can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 4B-457-9th Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 4A9 or to a charity of choice.
