Obituary of Roy James Little

LITTLE: Roy James Little passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon. Roy was born on August 16, 1938 in Belmont, Manitoba to parents Allan and Alice Little and was raised on a farm at Hilton, Manitoba. He obtained his schooling in Hilton going on to Teacher's College in Winnipeg in 1955. He started teaching in 1956 at Stockton, Manitoba and went on to teach at Cromer, Holland, Treherne, Hartney and Brandon. In August of 1961, Roy married Elinor (Knight) and they continued teaching together at Holland until the birth of their daughter Karen in 1963 and son Kevin in 1966. Roy obtained his Bachelor of Arts and his Bachelor of Education at the University of Manitoba attending summer school throughout the early 60's. Roy obtained his CMA accounting designation in 1985. He finished his high school teaching career at Neelin High School in 1987. He then obtained his real estate license and sold real estate for a time in Brandon. His last employment was with Assiniboine Community College where he did contract teaching in the Agri Business Program. Roy spent many summers inspecting pedigreed seed crops for the provincial agriculture department. He had a keen interest in farming and loved walking the fields with the farmers. Roy was active in the Kinsmen Club throughout the years. He loved cars (especially old cars) and he was the one his family consulted first before buying a car. His dream car was a 1957 Thunderbird. Roy loved music and many happy hours were spent playing his guitar and banjo. Roy will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughter Karen (Larry) Houck, granddaughters Haley (Mike) and Erin and by his son Kevin (Jody) and grandson Brandon. Roy will also be remembered by his sisters Betty (Frank), Arlene (Wayne) and Brenda (Rick) and his brothers Doug (Tobey), Russell and Bruce (Emily). He also leaves his aunt Doreen, many nieces, nephews and cousins as well as brothers in law Gordon (Joyce), Ron (Airdrie) and sister in law Phyllis. Roy was predeceased by his wife Elinor, parents Allan and Alice Little, parents in law Charlie and Nora Knight and sister in law Doreen Little. A graveside memorial service was held on Friday, May 9, 2014.
