Obituary of Madeline Vivian Gibson

GIBSON: It is with great sadness but with grateful thanksgiving that we announce the passing of Madeline Vivian Gibson at her residence, Dinsdale Personal Care Home, at the age of 103 years. She died the way she lived, with grace, strength and the comfort of her faith. Mom leaves a legacy as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Madeline was born at Cartwright, MB, November 28th, 1910 and being one of the eldest of eight children was a natural loving, caring sister to her siblings. She continued in this manner throughout her life and so often was referred to as a 'lovely lady'. Madeline was predeceased by her loving husband Albert James, parents Humphrey and Madeline Wilson, brothers Charles, William and Humphrey (Toby) and sisters Winnifred and Edith. Family was the most important part of Mother's life. She loved birds, small animals, and the family dogs all held a special place in her heart. Mom was a lifelong member of Central United Church and enjoyed her work with the UCW. For many decades she was a faithful volunteer with the Red Cross. Mom was born and raised in the Cartwight district. She and Dad married and farmed in the Holmfield area where Mary and Terry were born. After moving to Neepawa in 1945, Carol arrived. Here they raised their family on an idyllic acreage. Mom made this a home, built on the foundation of love, respect and kindness. Always adhering to the "Golden Rule" 1968 found them residing in Winnipeg where she was close to some of her siblings. Mom worked in her beloved "Eatons " store and enjoyed the fellowship of her co-workers. In 1975, Mom and Dad moved to Brandon where Mom found more time to devote to family, church, Red Cross, hobbies of sewing, knitting, crocheting and painting. Inspired and enriched by her life are her daughters, Mary (Wayne) Sparling of Brandon, Carol (Bill) Stadnyk of Brandon, and son Terry (Gale) Gibson of Morden. Also left to treasure her memory forever are her grandchildren: Karen (Brett) Mandryk, Brent (Mytai) Sparling, Troy Sparling, Jeff Stadnyk (Janice), Robyn Curle, Danny Gibson, David (Michelle) Gibson and Kelly (Marlo) Gibson. Great grandchildren are: Adam (Kelli) Moore, Hailie (Eden) and Laine Moore; Michael, Krista and Seanna Sparling; Jessiah Stadnyk; Alex and Charleigh Curle; Raquel Wiggens Smith; Sam and Lauren Gibson; and Kris Radkie, Kate and Grace Gibson and two great, great grandchildren Sophie and Addison. She is survived by sisters Vera Turner and Joan Koeppel and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Madeline's life will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 339 12th Street, Brandon, MB on Saturday, May 31st at 11:00 a.m. Private family interment to take place at Brandon Cemetery prior to the service. A warm and sincere thank you is extended to Dr. J. Maier, and the staff at Dinsdale Personal Care Home for their compassionate care of our much loved mother and grandmother.
