Obituary of Grace Helen Misanchuk
MISANCHUK: Grace Helen Misanchuk passed peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre at the age of 75. She was born on June 24, 1938 on the family farm at Crawford Park near Horod, MB. She spent her early life on the farm and completed Grade 9 at Horod School. At the age of 16, she moved to Winnipeg and worked as a waitress on the Air Force Base. Mom then came to Brandon where she met her husband, Michael, of 24 years. They raised four wonderful children in the home that she was proud to live in for 52 years. Mom worked at several jobs but was most proud to be the housemother of the Nurses Residence at BMHC where she retired in 1996. One of her goals was to become a teacher and she was able to achieve this by working at this job and being a volunteer with the church as a Catechist and a greeter. She belonged to the PEO, CWL, and Canadian Jewels where she spent hours visiting with her friends. Mom was honoured to receive special recognition when she presented Lt. Gov. Ed Schreyer with a hand-made Pysanka. Mom loved to garden and took pleasure in having people stop by to admire her flowers. She was happy to share her flowers with anyone, but especially the Daly House Museum. Mom spent many hours baking bread, making donuts, and pinching thousands of perogies, especially for family occasions. Mom had a strong sense of tradition that was shown by celebrations she hosted during Christmas and Easter. The greatest love Mom had in her life were the good times spent with family. She adored her grandchildren and did her best to keep up with their various activities. She was excited to have two great-grandchildren within the past year. Mom was predeceased by her husband Michael, children Bobby, John Stacey and Michael Trent, parents Frank and Sophie Black, and sister Phyllis Zurbyk. She is survived by her children Wade (Lisa) and their daughters Jena-Lee and Carley; Della (Barry) and their children Brianne (Chris) and their son Taylor, and Brock (Kendra) and their son Zailux; Todd (Gloria) and their sons Tyler, Brett, and Alexander; April Dawn (Lavern) and their sons Jackson and Tate; her brother Ted Black (Shirley); sister-in-law Sylvia Misanchuk and brother-in-law Norman Zurbyk. Prayers will be said Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 7:00 pm at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, 327-4th Street, on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 10:00 am with Fr. Kevin Smith as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Brandon Cemetery.
