Obituary of Charles Wilson

WILSON: Dr. Charles Paton Wilson (1937-2014). It is with great sadness that the family of Dr. Charles Paton Wilson aged 76, announce his sudden passing, Friday, June 6 during a routine family excursion. Dr. Wilson is survived by; his loving wife, Mrs. Elizabeth (Elma) Wilson, daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth (Beth) Saunders and son, Dr. David Wilson, Mrs. Angela Wilson and four grandchildren, Paton and Emilie Wilson and Rayden and Avery Saunders. His son-in-law, Mr. Michael Saunders, predeceased Dr. Wilson. In 1968, at the age of 30, Dr. Wilson and his wife Elma emigrated from Scotland and established family life and his medical practice in obstetrics and gynecology with the Brandon Clinic and Brandon General Hospital/Brandon Regional Health Authority. In the early days in Brandon, Dr. Wilson was involved with the Lions Club and the YMCA. Dr. Wilson was an avid runner, competing in athletics at University and throughout his clinical practice, and could be seen running to and from work in both summer and winter. Practicing medicine was his passion as was running. Dr. Wilson participated in many Manitoba marathons and YMCA fun runs, a highlight was winning a masters race at age 47. Unfortunately in 1998, he was diagnosed with an atrial arrhythmia that necessitated a pacemaker and limited his activity to walking. Dr. Wilson was appointed Chief of Staff at the Brandon General Hospital, an administrative role that he cherished as it enabled him to contribute his breadth of experience in medical practice and management to the Brandon Regional Health Authority. Prior to and during his retirement, Dr. Wilson and his wife Elma became avid gardeners on their acreage west of Brandon. Those who knew him both professionally and personally will dearly miss him as: Dr. Wilson, Charlie, Dad and Grandpa. It was Dr. Wilson's final wish that his passing be respected as a private event. However, his family hopes that as you read this you may reflect on how he touched our lives. Friends and family will lovingly miss him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, #3-824-18th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 5B7 or to a charity of choice.
