Obituary of Harris Wilson Wolfe

WOLFE: Harris Wilson of Alexander, Manitoba, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on June 29, 2014 at the age of 85 years. Harris was born on September 1, 1928 in the Tarbolton District in the R.M. of Daly, Manitoba. He lived his entire life on the original Wolfe farm. Harris attended Spring Valley School until he quit during the ninth grade to start his farming career. He married the local schoolteacher, Winnie Cathcart, on July 3, 1954 in MacGregor, Manitoba. At that time, his parents retired. Harris and Winnie took over the farm and raised their family. Farming was a huge part of his life, and he could always find work on the grain and cattle farm. There was always a job to do. One of his favorite things in the evening was to hop in the truck and tour the crops. He always lent a hand when there was a need. That was what neighbours did. Volunteering was mostly informal by just being there doing the work. He was assistant leader for the Harding 4-H Beef Club for over ten years. When he gave up that role, he was appreciative of the plaque he received that simply said, "Thanks Harris". A pastime in winter was refinishing furniture. Harris did several pieces for friends and neighbours as well as pieces that he picked up at auctions. Harris and Winnie loved to dance. They attended many old time dances before arthritis slowed him down. Harris had a wide grin and a hearty laugh which he easily used. He was predeceased by his wife Winnie; parents Emerson and Clara; brother Edward; and in-laws John Wedderburn, Bryan, Gerald, Clayton and Tina Cathcart, Margaret and Joe Bax, Mae and Gordon Purkess. Harris leaves to mourn son Mark (Candace); grandchildren Braden, Emma, and Chelsea; and daughter Arlene. He is also survived by sisters Doreen Wedderburn and Mavis Shelvey, sisters-in-law Marjorie Wolfe, Diane Cain and Yvonne Cathcart; and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Harris' life occurred on July 4, 2014 in the Whitehead Hall, Alexander, Manitoba. Mark and Arlene conveyed memories of their father. This was followed by a social time where stories and laughs were shared. Interment will take place at a later date at the Tarbolton Cemetery. Donations in memory of Harris may be made to the Tarbolton Cemetery Fund, c/o Barrie Cochrane, R.R. #1, Alexander, MB, R0K 0A0 or to a charity of your choice. Rest now. Your work is done.
