Obituary of Phyllis Clark
CLARK: Phyllis (née Bartlett), widow of the late Harold Clark and mother to Larry, Wesley and Dwane Clark, passed away August 10, 2014 after a struggle with cancer at the Assiniboine Centre, Brandon. Phyllis was one of seven children born to William and Dolly Bartlett on the family homestead in the Humesville district north east of Forrest, Manitoba. She received her education at the community school and went on to pursue a career in healthcare. Phyllis cut her career short in order to return home and care for her ailing mother, who a short while later, passed away at the early age of 51. It was during this time that she met our Dad, Harold, and they were married in 1949. They started a family beginning with the birth of Larry, followed by Wesley and Dwane. For years Mom had a very busy lifestyle raising three active boys and running the home based office. She was active with U.C.T., Eastern Star Lodge and Royal Purple and became very involved in the Brandon community. Throughout her life, she also found time for friends and neighbours, in particular, her bridge ladies. Phyllis and Harold enjoyed many winters down south at their place in Indio, California and made many long term friends. Brandosa Beach, where she spent many happy summers, was also important to Mom. Her deck was a gathering point she enjoyed - even in her last month. Happy hours on the "Queen's" deck among all the beautiful flowers that she grew were enjoyed by all who attended. When Dad became ill, they took up residence at Monterey Estates for a number of years and after Dad passed, Mom moved to Lions Manor becoming involved in many activities offered. She lived an independent lifestyle right up to the last weeks of her life. Mom was predeceased by her parents William and Dolly Bartlett, stepmother Clara, brothers Cyril, Everett (Scotty), sister Alice Slator, twin infant sisters, granddaughter Lindsay, husband Harold, eight brothers-in-law, six sisters-in-law, and just recently, brother Douglas on August 6, 2014. She is survived and greatly missed by her son Larry and wife Suzanne, granddaughter Julie; her son Wesley and wife Brenda, grandson Kevin, granddaughter Krista Ferguson (Eric), step grandchildren Lee and Josh McKay; son Dwane and wife Janet, granddaughter Kelsey, grandson David, great grandchildren Jack and Liara Ferguson. Brother-in-law Charlie Clark, sisters-in-law Betty McFarland, Ruth Harris, Dorothy Clark, Ruth Bartlett, nephew Harold Slator and families, many cousins and special people in her life, Irene and Brian, Myrna and Wilf. The family thanks you all for the kind messages and show of support. The service to celebrate Phyllis' life was held at Central United Church on August 18, 2014 with Arlene Robertson officiating. Interment followed at the Humesville Cemetery. Donations in memory of Phyllis may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, "Palliative Care," 150 McTavish Ave. East, Brandon, MB, R7A 2B3 or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 415-1st Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 2W8.
