Obituary of Ruth Gertrude Armstrong

ARMSTRONG: Ruth (née Ratcliffe). It is with very sad hearts that the family announces the passing of our loving mom and grandma. She passed away peacefully with her family at her side on September 2, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Ruth was born April 14, 1944 in Melita, MB. Her childhood was spent growing up in Napinka, MB with her four siblings who she had very special relationships with. Ruth moved to Brandon to take her hairdressing and worked various jobs before meeting her soul mate, Les Armstrong, in 1967. They married in October 1968 and resided in Melita, MB until 1976 when they moved to Brandon. Ruth stayed home with her children while they were growing up and babysat many other children during those years. Ruth is survived by her children Cathie Cullen and Wade (Michelle) Armstrong; grandchildren Jake and Emily Cullen, Cameron and Colton Armstrong. She also leaves her sisters Velva (Russ) Crepeele, Marlene Wiseman and Brenda (Jim) Earl and her brother Ed (Debbie) Ratcliffe, as well as many nieces and nephews, and special friends Pearl Bull, Rita McLaren and Bev Armstrong who she enjoyed many social outings with. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Les, her parents Frank and Jessie Ratcliffe, Les' parents Gordon and Marvel Armstrong, siblings George Ratcliffe, Mildred Tweed and Ella Line as well as her brother-in-law and friend, Bob Wiseman. A Celebration of Ruth's Life will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Monday, September 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Funeral Celebrant, Kim Lewarne, officiating. Ruth will be sadly missed and always remembered for her genuine love of spending time with her family and friends. Donations in memory of Ruth may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, "Palliative Care," 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2B3.
