Obituary of James "Jim" Ernest Barr

BARR: James "Jim" Ernest Barr passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on November 16, 2014 at the age of 85 years. Jim is survived by his wife Hilda, sons Neil (Rosa) of Santiago, Chile, Brian (Jamie) of Vancouver and daughter Sandra (Gary Atkinson) of Brandon along with grandchildren Stephen, Kathryn and David Barr and Kristin and Jayme Atkinson. Jim was born in Brandon to Walter and Gladys Barr. His entire life was spent living and working in Brandon. He began working at an early age for the family business (Barr's Transfer & Construction.) He later worked for the Simplot Chemical Company from 1972 to 1991. Jim was a past member of the Masonic Lodge and Shriners. He was deeply involved in minor hockey while his two sons were playing. Upon retirement, Jim found time to indulge in some of his many interests – golf, travel, spending time with friends and family and following local sports. One of the highlights of his travelling adventures was a month-long trip to Chile in 2004 to spend time with his son Neil and family. Jim had a passionate interest in following the activities of his grandkids, and would rarely miss their soccer, basketball, volleyball or horse jumping events. His interest in local sports was not limited to his family and he became a familiar face at many sporting events in Brandon and area. Jim was honored by a memorial reception at the George Brockie Fellowship Centre on November 22, 2014. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jim may be made to a charity of choice. "Thank you for being you and for all that you've given to us."
