Obituary of Peggy Doreen Hardy

HARDY: It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Peggy Doreen Hardy, who died suddenly at her residence, on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the age of 90 years. Peggy was born on June 4, 1924, in East Brighton, England, the only child of William and Annie Barnsdale. She grew up in Brighton and was involved in dance and drama as a child. During WWII, Peggy worked as a factory hand and at age 19, she met and married Private Fredrick Herbert Hardy (motor mechanic), of Canada, on December 27, 1943 in Brighton. She came to Canada on the Aquitania as a War Bride, landing at pier 21 in Halifax. Peggy worked as a homemaker and after moving to Brandon, she worked at the Metropolitan, Economart, Norm's Grocery, and retired from the Brandon University Food Services. Peggy was a dedicated mother and she hosted many family gatherings. She always looked forward to coffee with her three daughters, and with others. Peggy took pride and care in her appearance and was always dressed in the latest fashions. She was well-known for making delicious butter tarts, and her passion for her dogs was also an important part of her life. She belonged to the Deloraine Legion, Brandon Legion as well as the Crocus Obedience & Kennel Club, where she enjoyed participating in obedience, scent hurdling and fly ball with her Cocker Spaniels. Peggy will lovingly be remembered by her children: Garry (Lucile), Blaine (Lois), Brian (Koko), Gail (Jack), Trevor (Deb), Cheryl (Don), Joy (Warren) and daughter-in-law, June. She will also be missed by her 20 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Peggy was predeceased by her husband Fred and son, Terry. A private family service and interment was held at the Brandon Cemetery on November 27, 2014. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Peggy may be made to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200-17th Street East, Brandon, MB, R7A 7M6.
