Obituary of Doris (Dorrie) Catherine Ward

WARD: It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Doris (Dorrie) Catherine Ward (née Hale) on December 14, 2014 at Rivers Personal Care Home at the age of 88 years old. Dorrie was born in London, England on June 8, 1926 to Nellie (née Canham) and Henry Hale. She spent most of her young life growing up in the Borough of Chelsea. At the age of eighteen, just after World War II, she met and married Arthur (Mick) Ward (1921-1977), a soldier with the Edmonton Fusiliers. Being a War Bride she sailed to Canada on the Queen Mary in 1946. She and Mick started their new life in Edmonton and were eventually posted to various Canadian Forces Bases during that time; Kingston, Ontario, Dundurn, Saskatchewan, Regina, Saskatchewan and finally Rivers, Manitoba. Dorrie's greatest joy was spending time with her family. Her love of needlework is proudly displayed in all of her families' homes. Dorrie was predeceased by husband Mick and two daughters Beverly Lund, Helen Wedgewood and her sister Elsie Weyman. Left to cherish her memory are her children Larry Ward of Ladysmith, British Columbia, Cathy Spearin (Howard), Dorothy Gerrard (Andy) and Eileen Silvius (Larry). Grandchildren Rob Ward (Dawna), Sheri Ward (Tim), Chris Gerring (Ty), Jane Chartrand (Keith) and Jesse Silvius. Sister Rene MacDonald. Great grandchildren Michael Peloquin, Jenny Peloquin, Robyn Vien, Brooke Ward, Taylor Ward and Avery Gerring. A private family service will take place at a later date. Friends who wish to make a donation in memory of Dorrie can to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, 4B-457-9th Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 4A9. The family wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to the great staff and volunteers at Rivers Personal Care Home and Palliative Care for their loving support and care for Mom. "If roses grow in Heaven Lord please pick a bunch from us and gently lay them in her arms and tell her they're from us."
