Obituary of Albert Edward Delmage

DELMAGE: Albert (Bert) Edward Delmage of Brandon, passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Friday, January 9, 2015 at the age of 90 years. Bert was born in Minnedosa on April 2, 1924 to parents Simon and Alice Delmage. He grew up on a farm one and a half miles east of Cameron School with his parents and six siblings. His early education took place in that one room school house. He later joined the Royal Canadian Air Force where he served as an aircraft rigger during WWII. After the war, Bert moved to Winnipeg to continue his education at the Manitoba Technical College where he studied to be an electrician. After graduation, he returned to Minnedosa where he completed his apprenticeship. While working in Minnedosa, he met Doreen Petrick of Brandon and they were married on July 22, 1950. After living in Brandon for a short period, Bert and Doreen moved to Shilo where Bert completed a 34 year career as an Electrical Supervisor with the Department of National Defence at Camp Shilo. After five years of living in Shilo, he made a decision to move back to Brandon. Alongside 13 other veteran families, as part of the Veterans' Land Act, he constructed the home where he raised his children and lived for 56 years. This very special house on Richmond Avenue remains in the family today. Bert had many interests including golf, curling, travel, nature, astronomy and was always up for a game of chess or cribbage. Bert was a member of Central United Church. He also took part in the Westman Stroke Support Group. He was an active volunteer at the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum where he was a lifetime member. He also was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Bert is survived by his loving wife of almost 65 years, Doreen, his two sons Mark and Mickey, his daughter Heather (Bela) and granddaughter Olivia. He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law Doris, parents Simon and Alice, siblings Ernest, Everett, Raymond, Frederick, Kenneth and Eleanor. Bert will be remembered for his love of life, love of his family, and time spent with his many friends. A service to celebrate Bert's life will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. A private family urn placement will take place at the Brandon Cemetery Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bert may be made to a charity of choice.
