Obituary of Charles MacDonald (Chick) Will

WILL: Charles MacDonald (Chick) passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at the Souris Personal Care Home. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 62 years, Alys. He will also be missed by his grandson Gordon Peacock, as well as many nieces and nephews: Lloyd (Gail) Will, Heather (Ken) Klassen, Kevin (Norma) Will, Dianna Fraser and Bradley (Cathy) Will and their families. He is also survived by his sisters Bessie Sedor of Calgary, Martha Rookes of Boissevain and their families, as well as sister-in-law Marjorie and niece Leona and her family. Chick was predeceased by his parents Charles and Jane Anne. Sons Gary and Gordon and his brothers Earl, Reg and Doug. Chick grew up and went to Mossgiel School to grade 8, when the family moved to Elkhorn. He went into Grade 9 but had to quit to help his Dad out on the farm. He worked for George Bartley in the General Store and then for Ken Lidster, where he learned to be a butcher. After a short time in the army, he worked for Eaton's in Winnipeg in the shoe and grocery departments. He then moved to Victoria, BC, where he met his future wife, Alys (Sammy) Sampson. They spent 12 years in Victoria before moving to Kamloops. They spent 27 years there before moving to Carroll in 1992. Chick was a charter member of Vic-Van Isle Kinsmen in Victoria and he joined the Masonic Order. After moving to Kamloops, he became President and Past President of the Kamloops K-40 club. He eventually became Past Master of Masonic Lodge No. 10 and Past President of the Kamloops Shrine Club No. 6. He was involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Kamloops Rotary Club. He spent 16 years being Chapter Dad and advisor of the Kamloops Order of Demolay. He was also a member of the Supreme Council. Chick loved his Harley Davidson motorcycle but sold it when he retired in Carroll. Chick joined the Royal Canadian Legion #60 in Souris. He enjoyed curling and golfing until his health deteriorated. He also loved being a Good Sam member with the Prairie Oasis Good Sams. He spent several winters in Arizona once Christmas was over. A Memorial Service was held at St. Paul's United Church, Souris, MB on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Don Sellsted officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Chick may be made to the Souris Personal Care Home, Box 10, Souris, MB, R0K 2C0 or to a charity of choice.
