Obituary of Helen Anderson McLean

MCLEAN: On March 8, 2015, Helen Anderson McLean, age 89, passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Helen was born in Sidney, Manitoba on May 6, 1925. She was predeceased by her parents David and Anne Smith, both originally from Scotland, her older sister Kay Shoemaker of Brandon and her husband, Lem McLean of Hargrave. Their three children were all born in Virden and lived on the family farm in Hargrave. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her son Morris, daughter Shirley (Kelly) Mitchell and daughter Gwen (Don) Dempster, their sons Bryce and Drew and his fiancé Jen and her great granddaughters Allie and Tess, as well as her many nephews and nieces who she loved dearly. Helen attended elementary school in Sidney and received a teacher's certificate at the Winnipeg Normal School. She taught in Hargrave. Helen enjoyed music and played in a local orchestra, church and school events. She had a lifelong love of curling, bowling and singing in the church choirs and the Barbershop Belles. Helen enjoyed travel, and often went with friends or family to interesting places. Family and friends were central to Helen. She loved listening, laughing and sharing stories of different adventures. She lived her life with grace and dignity and touched the lives of many and will be remembered with love. The family wishes to acknowledge the professional and caring attention of the staff at Fairview Personal Care Home and the nurses and doctors on the third floor of the Brandon Regional Health Centre. A memorial service will be held at Central United Church, 327-8th Street, on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. with Funeral Celebrant, Kim Lewarne officiating.
