Obituary of Walter "Scott" Meggison

MEGGISON: Walter "Scott" Meggison passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at the age of 92 years. Scott was born December 17, 1922 at Deloraine, fourth and youngest child of Walter and Mae Meggison. He grew up on a farm and attended Waterloo School, south of Goodlands. After school, he began farming with his father. In 1941, he joined the RCAF and became a Wireless Operator flying on the Lancaster planes. He returned home from England in May 1945, and returned to the farm. He married Ada Renwick in 1946. They farmed until 1974 when they moved to Brandon. He worked for Canadian Motors and Lindenberg Seeds before retirement in 1988. During these later working years and early retirement years, he enjoyed golfing, curling, church choir and especially Barbershop singing. He grew up in a family that loved music. He and his siblings often sang 4-part harmony while they were younger, and he continued singing with his brother for many years. He was delighted when he could join the bass section of the Brandon Barbershop chorus. Scott and Ada travelled with friends to Australia, to England and on a tour of Europe. They vacationed across Canada and enjoyed a few winters in the southern United States. He always said the most memorable vacation had been to England, when he was able to revisit the airfield and surrounding area where he had been stationed during the war. Family was very important to him. He supported his children and grandchildren in their many activities and was proud of their various accomplishments. With his positive outlook on life, he gained many friends throughout the years. He enjoyed a good conversation with family or friends, and if there was laughter in the room he was usually involved. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Ada of almost 69 years, daughter Linda (Ross) Sprung and son-in-law Michael Smith; grandchildren Janelle (Cameron) Chawrun, Meghan Sprung, Jamieson Ripley and Celine Meggison; and great-granddaughter Emily Chawrun. He is also survived by his sister Ruth Bell. He was predeceased by his daughter, Lorraine, in June 2013, as well as his brother, Jack, and sister, Marjorie Cameron. A Memorial Service was held at Central United Church on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Glen Whetter officiating. Donations in memory of Scott may be made to a charity of choice.
