Obituary of John William Boychuk

BOYCHUK: John William Boychuk. June 27, 1917 - March 17, 2015. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dad, John, at the age of 97, with his family at his side. His wife, Pearl, passed away in August 2004. Left to mourn his passing are his children Gerri (Paul), Eugene (Daniel), Brian (Leslie). He is also survived by his granddaughter Andrea and grandson, Jesse. John also leaves behind his brother Morris (Alice), sisters Rose and Martha (Steve), sister-in-law Olga, as well as his extended family Ryan (Marnie, Jasper, Gibson) and Adam. John was predeceased by his brother Harry, sister Lena and brother-in-law, Mike. Dad taught school in St. Martin, Vita and Sandy Lake. He also travelled to schools with The Alcohol and Drug Foundation. Many happy times were spent with mom and dad at the family cottage in Sandy Lake. He loved fishing and just looking at the lake. Mom and dad spent a lot of time at the Sandy Lake Drop in Centre, and established many lifelong friendships. Everyone who knew dad will dearly miss his sparkling eyes and not so subtle sense of humour. For the last five years, John has lived at Holy Family Care Home in Winnipeg, where he was cared for with much compassion. We greatly appreciate the staff's care and kindness in dad's final days. The funeral service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. A private burial will be at Sandy Lake Orthodox Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest beside his wife, Pearl. He often said mom was waiting for him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
