Obituary of Alvina Ducharme

DUCHARME: Alvina Ducharme (née Vermette) resided in Brandon at Sokol Manor, where she lived since 1987. Alvina was born on June 2, 1922 in Ste. Madeline, Manitoba, where she worked on a farm for $30.00 a month milking four cows. Although life was hard at times, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren kept her going, and she loved them all the same. She was a devoted and loving mother. Alvina was always happy even when she was sad. She loved to laugh and joke. She was the kind of person that radiated love when you met her. Alvina had a million dollar smile that lit up a room and an infectious happiness that was contagious, she was very young at heart. Alvina was a homemaker, but would work Bingo's from time to time and volunteered at the MMF. Her interests were Dance Jig, bingo, cards, crib, wisk, wizard, shuffle board and oh yes, slot machines 25 cents haha. She is survived by her children Isabelle, Dorothy, Alphonse, Velma, Janet, Terry, Annette, Valerie, Ronnie and Robert, as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Alvina was predeceased by her parents mother Zilda Kline Vermette and her father Augustine Vermette, daughter Cecilia, sisters Josephine, Alice, Rose, Agnes, Pauline and Emma, and her brothers Vincent, Maurice, Joe, Charlie, John and Fred. Alvina passed away peacefully at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon on Sunday, March 22, 2015 at the young age of 92 years, with her loving granddaughter, Tammy by her side. A Memorial Service was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. with Funeral Celebrant, Kim Lewarne officiating. A lunch was held in her honour at the MMF immediately following the service. Donations in memory of Alvina may be made to the Manitoba Metis Federation, 656-6th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 3P1. To the world Alvina may have been one person, but to so many people she meant the world! Earth's loss, is truly Heaven's Gain. She will be missed by all.
